Been getting very mixed reviews but the one thing that has been rather constant is that it's quite uninspired and modern Metallica by the numbers...

^^^ So far yes!.

I've been busy and only got through the first 7 (of 12) songs. It's very much in the vein of Death Magnetic / Hardwired neither of which I took to straight away, but Death Magnetic grew on me and is now one of my favourites from them, while Hardwired didn't improve so much. None of the songs seem original and none of them seem to have much of a hook, but those might emerge with repeated listens. As the only track that I've heard more than once I would have to say that Lux Aeterna is my favourite, but then I quite liked it the first time I heard it.

I picked up the new Metallica on Friday but I have yet to listen to it.

I agree with you kilo on Death Magnetic and it is probably the best thing that they have done since the Black Album.

Hardwired was good but I rarely listen to it now.

I too enjoyed Death Magnetic quite a bit...Hardwired was a huuuuge letdown especially after the very good first single which kind of let you believe that it would be something of an old school sounding record...turned out to be ReLoad 2 sadly.

The songs I've heard from the new album don't impress me much at all...Lux Aeterna has grown on me a bit though...

Picked up some oldies-style rock and roll over the weekend, along with psych-prog Hanford Flyover's latest...





The Angela Tini and Mozzy Dee are pre-orders, they deliver in May. Both are strong, strong performers, so I'm confident in the quality of those buys.

I've now finished the new Metallica album...

While I may change my mind with more listens I'm going to suggest that overall it's a poor effort, BUT the last three songs did show promise (Too Far Gone, Room of Mirrors and the lengthy Inamorata).
