^^Yeah it’s quite different and not as solid and consistent as Bonded but still good in its own way.

I'm really digging it...I think it's bit less heavy than Fabulous Disaster but there are some great riffs and Steve sounds great.

Metallica - S&M2

No.1 on the mid-week chart in the UK but it will probably fall back a place or two when the final chart comes out.

What you think Kilo? I preordered the deluxe boxset a couple of months ago, mainly because it’s got an exclusive orange/silver vinyl in it. International postage is obviously very slow at the moment though so still waiting. I’m not too fussed about that anyway as this release doesn’t enthuse me all that much. Was never a fan of S&M and same goes with this. Riff heavy guitar bands playing with a symphony just doesn’t do it for me. Quite like James’s performance on The Unforgiven III though. Very honest and heartfelt. Actually his performance on the whole album is very good. Which is pretty amazing given what he was dealing with at the time and subsequently went straight to rehab after those shows.

I only ordered it yesterday, it should arrive today. I only got the 2CD version, I might have got the BluRay but it was a bit expensive! The set list looks pretty good.

That's funny...cause I quite enjoyed the first S&M show but was totally underwhelmed by the set list of this second one so I didn't even bother with it. Heck they didn't even do Seek & Destroy!
I would have loved to see some deep cuts, but instead it's pretty much the greatest hits with stuff from the underwhelming new album thrown in...  :(

I'm with Jack - riffiness doesn't mix well with full symphony. Prog rock and symphonies, sure. Disco or funk and a full symphony orchestra? That's what they were made for.

But would you want "Sweet Leaf" to have a symphony backing it?

Metal can work with an orchestra...but it also might not. It's a slippery balance that one.

Deep Purple has made it work quite well with their orchestral shows. Same with Sons Of Apollo and Doro.

But I think the hevier the undertone of the music the less it works with an orchestra...anything doomy is a no no.

I quite like the set list but it is very similar to S&M, but I suspect some tracks just wouldn't work with a symphony.

The best metal/orchestral crossovers have been when the songs have been written with that in mind.

Yep, have always loved No Leaf Clover. Only ever known that song with orchestral arrangements. Best song from S&M for mine. Glad they threw it on S&M2 as well.

EXCELLENT compilation of deep soul cuts from the South. They only had regional exposure and distribution, so they never got to be where they could hit the top of the charts, any chart... 3 of the 50 tracks feature a sitar, which goes to show just how penetrating George Harrison's influence was when he picked up that instrument.

Finally got the latest Lucifer album:

The band carries on with their 70s inspired sound and it's a killer...and Johanna's voice is as sublime as always!
