RAINBOW Tribute album coming
« on: May 09, 2026, 11:27:49 AM »
There's a new RAINBOW tribute album coming that does have quite an impressive line up!

Here's the track list:

01. Long Live Rock 'N' Roll - Bob Daisley, Graham Bonnet, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, Carmine Appice, Don Airey
02. Man On The Silver Mountain - Sebastian Bach, Doug Aldrich, Bob Daisley, Carmine Appice, Mick Box, Jonathan Cain
03. Stargazer - Derek Sherinian, Marty Friedman, Vinny Appice, Jürgen Engler, Joe Bouchard, Ronnie Romero
04. Lady Of The Lake - ANGEL
05. Rainbow Eyes - Mike Tramp
06. Since You Been Gone - Marty Friedman, Vinny Appice, Graham Bonnet, Jürgen Engler
07. Kill The King - Rick Wakeman, Bob Daisley, Vinnie Moore, Marc Lopes, Chris Adler
08. The Temple Of The King - Steve Morse, Phil Soussan, Ronnie Romero, Simon Wright, Jonathan Cain, Kevin James Morse
09. Jealous Lover - George Lynch, Vinny Appice, Andrew Freeman, David Ellefson, Jonathan Cain
10. I Surrender - Eric Gales, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Phil Soussan, Don Airey, Chris Adler
11. Catch The Rainbow - Doogie White, Derek Sherinian, Chris Poland, Vinny Appice, Bob Daisley
12. Street Of Dreams - Paul Shortino, Joel Hoekstra, Joe Bouchard, Fred Aching, Jonathan Cain
13. Stone Cold - Vivian Campbell, Joe Lynn Turner
14. I Surrender - Marcus Nand, Candice Night

Here's Steve Morse and Simon Wright and Phil Soussan with Ronnie Romero doing a rather different sounding version of TEMPLE OF THE KING

I like it.

I'm not a huge fan of tribute albums but I might be getting this one.

Woah, they rounded up a lot of folks for this one. I haven't seen Paul Shortino's name in ages.

I'm interested in this one, looks like there may be a fair amount of acoustic or stripped-back arrangements, given how some are just a singer and a guitarist.

This is something I would like to hear but I am generally not a big fan of tribute albums
I may listen to it on YouTube but I can't validate buying it.

He was in Rough Cutt, and known for being smaller than a midget. He had no stage presence because no one could see him. He can't hold a guitar, and his arms are too short to use a drum kit or even keyboards correctly.

I'm not really sure WTF he actually did for the band.

Shortino was "Duke Fame" in the Spinal Tap movie. Legend.

I don't think I've ever heard a single Rough Cutt song...I do think I remember the name though.

I used to have their first album. Somewhere along the way it disappeared; I have not replaced it.

Found out the band Rough Cutt was managed by Wendy Dio and had some songs co-written with her and also one with Ronnie on their debut album. Band used to have Jake E. Lee in it before he went to Dio and then Ozzy.

It's generic mid-80s metal, better than Barry Manilow if you're looking for road trip music.

Only tune I remember from them is Piece of My Heart. I *think* it was on one of those metal compilation albums that used to come out all the time, and that prompted me to go out and buy their full-length. turned out to be, as Z stated, "generic".

I never caught them live, but legend has it that Shortino (who was the lead singer) was so tiny they'd tape him to the mic stand and have a regular sized dude act like he was singing while Paul was actually yelling into the microphone. Then one fateful night, the fake singer was showing off, swung the mic stand around in the air, and the tape broke sending Paul flying out into the audience. No one could ever find him so they had to cut the show short (heeee) and cancel all remaining tour dates. People think that due to his micro-size he was accidentally swept up, along with plastic beer cups, broken coke-mirrors and other refuse, into the trash.

A cautionary tale, to be sure.

I hammer on the guy because I always felt his singing is what held that band back.

Fun fact is that the original version of "Piece of My Heart" was done by Erma Franklin, Aretha's older sister:

She was actively making recordings from 1961-1970, when she left the music biz. Much of her work is amazing stuff, but it just never really got traction, likely due to distributors focusing on other acts.
