New Iommi album in the works

[Zzzptm]

First impressions:

The guitar work is strong, no question of that. Bass and drums are fine, nothing there drove me up the wall. Vocals... I think I got a little more used to the guy's voice, but it's still not where it doesn't distract from the song. It's like he's copying Dio's growls without having the vocal clarity underlying the growl. I can think of how Glenn Hughes or Tony Martin would have handled the vocals, and I'd have been more comfortable with either of them doing the singing.

Overall, the mood reminded me of Queensryche's Operation:Mindcrime. There were times when the vocals cleared up and the Geoff Tate in them was very strong to my ears. Add to that the midtempo beat and background synth textures, and the resemblance was strong, and that's not a bad thing.

I need to think about this one...

It entered the UK album chart at No. 11 today. His solo albums really have done nothing chartwise so thi is a pleasant uotick!

But he's done a bunch of mainstream TV spots and he is probably more recognisable with everyday people since the death of Ozzy.

My double album arrived this morning - came with a patch and a shirt. I didn't put all of it in the picture. Interesting packaging, the cover has a smooth/tacky feel to it.

Blue...cool.

Yeah the cover is interesting...also I fear the cut away will easily break. Have to be careful with that...
