Oh Boy!
« on: July 02, 2023, 11:54:42 AM »
So, my wife conspired with our daughters to buy me a thing. Apparently they felt that have a near-death experience qualified me for a gift. It arrived the other day...an ARP 2600-M. It's made by Korg (they bought the ARP Instruments IP, since ARP went out of business in 1981, but it is sold and branded as ARP) and uses the same circuitry as the original 2600s from the 1970s. Except it's about 40% smaller than the original. Comes with a small keyboard and a travel case.

It's freaking awesome!

Wow what a nice gift. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun with that.

Can’t remember you mentioning that you play keyboards.

Thanks Jack - my family was super excited to be able to get that for me.

I know I mentioned I have a guitar that I play - but probably over at the old site. And I'm a much better air guitarist than a guitarist lol. Wild animals flee the property when I crank up the amp.

And I don't think I've ever mentioned I can play the piano/keyboards. Proficiently enough to not offend people, at any rate :)

The folks around my house yesterday got to hear Edgar Winters' Frankenstein played for them  - this it was a lot of fun, and thankfully the patch is readily available.

Very cool looking device...not that I understand any of it though. But I guess it's some sort of a synth that can produce a lot of different sounds?

Yep, it is a, "semi-modular full-normalled analogue synthesizer".

The word "normalled" is not a spelling mistake. In synth-land it refers to premade default connections that can be fully bypassed by use of a patch cable.

It seems as if this thing has an infinite variety of sounds it can make, that is for sure!
