Live Evil getting a super deluxe edition (remaster and remix)
« on: April 10, 2023, 03:23:57 AM »
https://blabbermouth.net/news/black-sabbaths-live-evil-to-be-re-released-as-40th-anniversary-super-deluxe-edition
BMG has set a June 2, 2023 release date for the 40th-anniversary super deluxe edition of BLACK SABBATH's "Live Evil".

This new edition of "Live Evil" was remixed by Wyn Davis and remastered for the 40th anniversary and includes a 1982 "The Mob Rules" tour replica hardback concert book, a 40-page book with photos, artwork and liner notes and a 1982 "The Mob Rules" tour replica color poster. It will be available as a 4CD and 4LP set.

This iconic collection captures the raw energy and heavy metal mastery of the SABBATH lineup of the lineup of Ronnie James Dio (vocals),Tony Iommi (guitar),Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums),with classic tracks like "War Pigs", "Iron Man" and "Paranoid" among the highlights.

BLACK SABBATH, one of the most prominent and influential faces of the 1970s rock topography were, by the decade's end, a band in disarray. Once the masters of their own reality, the Birmingham four-piece were now battle-weary veterans, wearing the deep scars of a near-ten-year album-tour-album cycle. BLACK SABBATH's then-latest album, "Never Say Die!", released in September 1978, would transpire to be their final studio recording with Ozzy Osbourne, who in less than a year, would no longer be with the band.

The loss of the iconic voice might have signaled the end of the band. But, that wasn't to be the case…

Dio, RAINBOW's founding lead vocalist whose lion's roar had taken the band to gold and platinum status, also parted company with the Ritchie Blackmore-led outfit. Several phone calls later and a chance meeting in, of all places, the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, Iommi invited Dio to join the remaining members of BLACK SABBATH for an impromptu rehearsal. Within fifteen minutes and one brand new song later ("Children Of The Sea"),a new era of BLACK SABBATH was born.

The resultant album releases over the next few years proved without question, that this match was one without peer and succeeded without question in carrying the name of BLACK SABBATH (later with Appice replacing Bill Ward on drums) proudly into the new decade. With an accompanying soundtrack featuring some of the most exciting and dramatic heavy metal to ever grace a studio or stage, BLACK SABBATH rose once more to a place of highest regard within elite rock circles.

Such was the chemistry between these players, that two reformations of this BLACK SABBATH lineup have since been made, the second of which, starting in 2007 and ending with Dio's death in 2010, went under the title of that first ground-breaking album, "Heaven And Hell".

1982's "Live Evil" caught a band at the height of its powers.

06. Fluff (Live In Fresno, April 18, 1982)

I'm probably in a minority but I'd have preferred a box set of the individual gigs that made up the album. Let alone the mythical film if it survives.
With that said, I'm curious to hear the remix.

Yeah I saw the news about this.

The deluxe edition that came out a while back already had a much better sound than the original but I guess it was still bit on the thin side.

So the remixes might be interesting to hear.

But I too would have much rather gotten something new. The Portland show we got for the Mob Rules DE was excellent and the sound was great!

I am not sure will I be getting this one...I guess it comes down to the price really...

Looks like the Seattle/San Antonio shows alone would have been the ones to have, if not also Fresno and Dallas.

And yes, where's that FILM???

If this release came with a DVD of the mystery film, I'd be all over it. As it is though, probably going to pass on this one.

I'm going to reserve judgement on this release until I/we have more conclusive info. re. the origin of the remixed tracks.

I though I had the earlier deluxe edition, turns out I don't, so I only have the original 1980s CD. This new one is available to pre-order at £99 on Amazon... err, I'll stick with what I've got!

Nope, just the CDs but it may be an incomplete description. Just checked the Vinyl is £130.

Looking through my stuff, I've got a well-played, but well-cared for version I bought new back in 1982/83 or whenever it hit the shelves. I also have the 2009 remastered version from Rhino, that I've played once - just to compare.

I think I'll stick with what I have already.

Anyone bought this yet?

I heard from a facebook buddy that the remix is SUBERB and that it contains a lot of new unreleased banter from Ronnie as well. But main thing was that the remix sounds 100 times better than any version before. His words...

I'm starting to think I'm going to buy it after all...but 89€ is pretty damn steep for an album though...

With my birthday coming up this month my wife and daughter were pestering me what I wanted so I told them to by me this Live Evil box set but to get it off Amazon US and not Amazon AU as it worked out much cheaper from the US but just as they decided to go ahead and buy it, it sold out on Amazon US and now only available from third party sellers at a much dearer price. It’s too expensive on Amazon AU so am going to hold off until it’s either back in stock on the US site or it gets heavily discounted on AU which it will at some stage.

I listened to it on Spotify release day and Iommi’s guitar and Ronnie’s vocals are louder in the mix but the drums still sound like shit unfortunately. It will never be a great sounding live album as it wasn’t recorded very well to begin with. Still buying it though  :)

Just ordered it from AmazonAU even though it’s sold through AmazonUS. Kinda odd, you can’t actually go on the AmazonUS site and order it as it’s no longer in stock, but on the AmazonAU site, you can order it for either $239AU  and it ships from within Australia or $171AU and it ships from the US. Obviously went the cheaper price and with free shipping being a prime member.

but the drums still sound like shit unfortunately

I'm out then. The drum sound sent me up the wall, makes it hard for me to listen to.
