In total shock. One of Australia's and the worlds greatest ever cricketers and commentators dead at 52.

Suspected heart attack. Unbelievable!

He was a legend, he was the scourge of England (like many Aussies! ;) ) and he played for my team Hampshire for a few years during the naughties and was the captain of the team 2005-07.

His antics beyond the sport will mean he's known by many outside the cricketing community.

Not a great day for Australian cricket with the death of Rodney Marsh earlier today (although less unexpected) still another great player.

It is a testament to the man's fame that although I am oblivious to cricket, I have actually heard of him. Rest in peace!

Still in a state of disbelief over this one as is the whole country as they wake to this sad news. The man transcended cricket and changed the game forever. An absolute genius of spin bowling, a brilliant cricketing mind and a total larrikin on and off the field and a Melbourne boy through and through who was incredibly loved and admired by so many in and outside of the cricket world.

Oh man... 52....that's way too soon to go.

Seems like he was a respected person down under...so he deserves respect from me as well.

^Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, Ed Sheeran and Russell Crowe are just a few of the famous people that have posted heartfelt tributes to him which gives you an idea of his reach and how much he was respected & admired.

Yes indeed.

Cricket isn't all that well known here...in fact I can't even remember seeing any cricket related news ever in our media. That's why it's actually bit of a surprise how big of a sport it is elsewhere!

It’s come to light the last couple of days that when England was in Australia for the recent Ashes series, after they got trounced in the first test by the Aussies, Shane Warne organised a golfing day and dinner for them, had the whole English team flown by Helicopter to the golf course and covered the whole cost inc dinner as he knew what the English press was like and the pressure they’d be put under after the loss. That sums up the character of the man right there and why he was so hugely popular not only in Australia but by opposition players and fans from all over world.

Ex England captain Michael Vaughan had become best of mates with him since being retired and has really been affected by his death
