Last Night I Dreamed

... that I was in Finland. All these guys named Pekka and Heikki Paavo and what-not were milling around at some kind of gathering I was present at. I asked them, "Where is Charger?" and they'd all say, "Charger? That's not a name I'm familiar with, what's his Finnish name?" Then they'd point out everyone else there by name and I'd say thanks and try asking again.

It wasn't a nightmare, though, as they were all very polite and reserved, I quite respected that. The buffet there was also tasty, don't know everything they had there, but I remembered what it looked like. I did a Google search for Finnish dishes and saw a Karjalanpiirakka and immediately recognized it, it was really good in my dream. Image, below.



Scrolling through the page were some things I didn't recognize from my dream, but they did have Leipajuusto in the buffet:



Which I also quite liked. There was also this, Poronkaristys, which I had without the pickles.



I don't know what's wilder, remembering the taste of foods in my dream or finding out that I dreamed about real things that I've never seen before. This kind of stuff has happened before, and usually when I know the place name associated with my dream and my strong impressions of something happening there, I wind up there in a few years. So I guess something will take me to Finland before long.

The Karjalanpiirakka (Carelian pie) isn't called that anymore as it was offensive to people in carelia or to people who were exciled from carelia or something ridiculously stupid as that...it's just called a Rice pie now...but regardless they can be very good...or they can be really horrible...kind of a cheap basic food here. I quite often have some. Just put it in the micro and some butter on it and you're good to go. Fast and easy.

Bread cheese (leipäjuusto) is fresh cheese...that is pretty horrible...the texture is like eating rubber...it squaks in your teeth. Can't recommend that to anyone!

Poronkäristys (Sauteed Raindeer) is a bit more sophistocated foor I think...I've never had any personally. Raindeer is great very tasty meat though. But it needs to be cooked right...if you don't know how to cook raindeer don't.

I can't imagine a country more boring to visit than Finland though...there's nothing here really. I think the only even remotely fascinating thing here is the meteor impact lake Lappajärvi...the rest is just flat and wet and miserable boring blandness. But if that can rock your boat feel free to come...I'll give you a tour of all things boring.

Well, I had the dream, I'll be there one day. Could be business that takes me there, I don't know. Might be part of a Scandinavian tour, who knows? My brother lived in Estonia for 2 years, so Finland's right there next to it...

Well if you gotta come here I'd strongly recommend it to be for business...quick in quick out. Might prevent a death by instant boredom.

There's an old church to see in Finland. Also the cell phone throwing contest, I could roll up for that one.

Have to say, the "Visit Finland" website had a stronger "yes there are some places worth seeing in Finland" message.

Your slogan, "Visit Finland on business so you don't die of boredom" could use a little more pizzazz, to be honest.
