Best Albums of 2022

Tony Martin's Thorns...  definitely will be in considerations of a "best of" dimension. I'm only three songs in, but this is a great album thus far. I'm significantly impressed.

EDIT: 9 songs in, it never let up. And "Run Like the Devil" lines up strongly against my favorite Eternal Idol track "Lost Forever".

And then Martin goes down an Ian Gillan-esque rabbithole with "This Is Your Damnation". I'm loving this.

Yep, Wo Fat is on my list. MASSIVE jams on their 2022 release!

Gonna also give a listen to The Space Huns' latest. It was only a buck on Bandcamp and I like their jams, so I bought it without a full pre-listen. Black Sky Giant's End of Days Pilgrimage will also receive due consideration.

This is a strong album with an awesome set at the end. It had a good opener, a few slow/mid-tempo tracks and then tracks 5-9 give it a powerful second half. Heavy rock without any screamo, cookie monsters, or shrill pipers. Good rocker vocals, in other words. Gonna buy this one and it may be a contender with Wo Fat's The Singularity for my #2 album of the year, I'll have to play them against each other.

Thorns still holding that awesomeness at #1 for me.

Never heard of them but I had to check them out because of that and holy moses! That's some heavy groovy stuff!

I'm digging it! The vocals are bit questionable maybe but the music is great!

I think I'll be buying that album!

Top albums of 2022...


Nothing really has touched Tony Martin's Thorns yet...that album is just simply put SUBERB...no to ways about it.

Others that have climbed up are
Wolfsbane - Genius
Megadeth - The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead
Deep Purple - Turning To Crime

Savage Master's Those Who Hunt At Night should rise up but I haven't gotten my copy yet...same goes for Visions Of Atlantis' Pirates.


Iron Maiden's Senjutsu will NOT be making it on the list...that was a huuuge disappointment again...
Ozzy's Patient #9 was bland as hell as well...not that I had any kind of expectations for it to begin with but I atleast expected some sort of quality with the tracks featuring Tony and Zakk but alas no...

Unless Dio rises from the grave and cuts a live album for streaming release, I think Thorns is easily the top album of the year. I'm very happy with the Wo Fat, Sasquatch, and Marlboro Men offerings. For non-metal/stoner, I enjoyed Chris Joss' TR 013. In other albums, I picked up some releases from smaller bands that I had fun with, but didn't play a lot: We Lay on Cold Stone by Josiah, Heavy Road by Parlyzed, Volume I by Sons of Arrakis, and End of Days Pilgrimage by Black Sky Giant. I was a little disappointed with the BSG offering, as their two previous releases are ones I play a lot.

I was disappointed overall with Ozzy, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden's releases. DP's last album with Morse was an unexpected swan song for their guitarist of so many years, and I very much enjoyed most of the tracks from it.

I am looking forward to the Nov. 11 release of Deaf Radio's new album, Arsenal of Hope.

@Kilo, it's got a great vibe to it, similar to The Stranglers. This band has gone through some great growth of late.

The Iron Maiden and Deep Purple albums were both released last year... doesn't time fly!

Thorns is quite far ahead, Ozzy's and Megadeth's are fine, and Jazz Sabbath Vol 2 is garbage.

Well that surely cuts down the number of albums released this year...

In my defense though I did buy Turning To Crime this year so that did screw my memory up a bit...but surely I should have remembered the Maiden...

One album I could add to the list is Hammerfall's Hammer of Dawn...although I am bit disappointed by that one I might have to relisten to it again as it's been few months and who knows it might have grown on me...
