Well actually if I remember correctly he didn't! And Seventh Star is much less heavy than Born Again or Eternal Idol...Also the early demos Star Of India or what ever they were called are bit less heavy than what Seventh Star turned out to be.

That being said I don't really know how much the actual album changed once the record company forced it to be Black Sabbath Featuring Tony Iommi though...if memory serves me the album was actually done already at that point as it was fully intented to be a solo release....

So if that's the case, then maybe Tony had some really good instrumental tracks that he had to wedge lyrics and vocals into somehow...
