I collect DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K Blu-Rays as well and I must have about 1000 of them by now.
I didn't know you had a 4k player and 4k television to watch those on.

I just upgraded to a 1080 gaming monitor and I have my Xbox One X and S that will play 4K discs. Soon I plan on acquiring a 4K TV especially after I get the new Xbox and the PS5. I have been collecting 4K discs if I see them for a good price to build up my collection.

I would say my most prized possession with respect to collectables are my Batman cards that I collected as a boy during the 1960s.  There are 5 series.  Series 1, known as the Black Bat set, has a plain white border.  Of the 55 cards in this set, I was missing 17, but last year I pick up 5 from a local antique shop.  So now I am missing only 12.

Series 2, known as the Red Bat set, has a red line in the border.  I have this complete set.

Series 3, the Blue Bat set, has a blue line in the border.  Of this set of 44 cards I am missing 6.  I find the artistry in all these sets quite beautiful.

The last 2 sets were released with production stills and media photographs from the Batman film that is based on the television show.  Series 4 is called the Bat Laffs set, because there are jokes and picture puzzles on the back.  I have this complete set.

Series 5, the Riddler Back set, were designed to look like old photo album inserts with each card back featuring a riddle to be solved with a decoder available in each pack.  Notice the card in the upper left corner is a nice shot of the rarely seen Bat Boat.  I have this complete set.

I see these sets selling on ebay for hundreds, and sometimes over a thousand dollars.  But this collection means so much to me that I don't think I would ever sell for any price.

Those are special to look at, even in photos. Thanks for sharing the images, Typhon. :)

Very cool Typhon. The fact you haven’t completed a couple of sets tells me that it’s probably hard to track down the single cards you need and you don’t want to pay the expensive prices they go for.

Is there one particular set that’s more sought after/collectable than the others?

Not a collection - but Typhon's posts prompted me to go looking for something I've managed to keep since my undergrad days. And I found it! Ares magazine from Sept. 1981, with the game - unplayed, none of the chits popped out. I had been a fan of Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat character sine I was probably 10, and happened upon this issue of Ares at a hobby shop when it was released. Now that I think about it some more, I do have a few letters (the old-fashioned, hand-written kind) I exchanged with Harrison, have a bunch of his books (not the magazines as they pre-dated me), and he even sent me a signed advance copy of the last book he had published before he died.

He was instrumental in opening my eyes to linguistics and why Esperanto was cool, yet ultimately doomed. Huh, I guess I do have a non-music related collection of sorts, after all!

Thanks, and you are correct.  Some sellers want absurd amounts.

Probably Series 1 is a bit more valuable, simply because it was first.  My personal favorite is Series 3.  Here are 3 of my favorite cards from that series.  "Jack Frost's Jinx", "Prehistoric Peril", "Frozen By Frost".

There is a top 10 list of most sought after cards.  I understand why some are on the list, but I don't know why other are.  For example, the 2nd most sought after is "The Batman", because it is the 1st card of the 1st series.  But "Cycling Crusader" is the 4th most sought after card and I have no idea why.

Currently the number 1 most sought after card is "Holy Rodents" from Series 3.  Again I don't know why.  I am fortunate enough to have a duplicate of this valuable card.

90% of these I bought from my local convenience store way back when.  It is hard to believe they are over 50 years old now.  Back then I think I paid around 10 cents for a pack of 5 cards.

Vyn: I subbed to Ares Magazine, loved it when Howard Chaykin did illustrations, like he did in that issue.

Hey, awesome!

In my non music related collectibles news, I need to remount the magnet boards I had my collection on, as they got too heavy for the Command strips that weren't really on there all that good. Took 3 years for them to fall off, but they did. Now I get to do my original plan and properly hang them with wall mounts. Had to do the Command strips because the missus did not want more holes in the wall, and I can appreciate that. We did an experiment and now know the weight limits of those strips when they're not on properly. :D

Sweet!

I've been neglecting my Donald Duck collections a bit lately due to money related issues...

Comics.

I have every single Donald Duck magazine from 1972 to 2012 (52 numbers per year plus extras) and all the Donald Duck pocket books ever released...514 or them plus few dozen of extra numbers plus quite an ammount of other Disney releases over the years. Hard cover books and soft cover books plus albums.

I can take some pics of the collection at some point...but it's a lot of stuff so it doesn't photograph easy.

My biggest desire is to get a full collection of DD magazine (starting from 1952) but that's nearly impossible as those older are rare as hell and cost a fortune...so that's not gonna happen...I'm hoping I could get 1970 and 1971 at some point but even those are hard to find in decent enough condition.

I was just able to get a Titan class (very large) Transformer of Black Zarak a character from a Japanese Transformer show from years ago. I paid 210 dollars for it but that is a good price. Though I will never sell it is nice to know that it will maintain if not greatly increase in value.
