A peak is best enjoyed alone or in the company of a small band of friends, where the winds and sights impress upon one and all the relationship of us humans in a larger world, a much, much larger world.

If we're dealing with concession stands, lines at scenic overlooks, and tiny spaces in the parking lot, we're not getting peak peak.

I had fun atop Pike's Peak, looking out over the plains and seeing all the way into Texas, but I had a moving experience at much less altitude atop Bead Mountain, Texas. Pike's Peak was a fun travel spot. Bead Mountain was an experience that gave me deeper understanding and even joy in the midst of sorrows.

If I had someone tell me to plan and execute a $50,000 vacation involving mountains, I can guarantee it would involve hotels, a sweet ride, and plenty of switchbacks and curves. I'd love to repeat my travel from Mexico City to Veracruz and back, that's what I'd do.

I get mild altitude sickness on top of Pikes Peak in Colorado lol. I would die immediately upon reaching camp one at Everest.

Fortunately, heights don't bother me, so I was able to put up half of the siding on my house by myself to save money.  Still, I have never had any interest in climbing mountains.
