A thread for covers, good and bad.
Just stumbled across this, i don't think it's all that bad. I like the Country vibe it's got, but i think it could've been pulled even more towards that direction. Brings out a whole other mood in the tune.

Just proove that this tune actually isn't that bad... Depends who's doing it, really... ;D

^^^^^ Sorry Billy, but I'll take the Dio version. Sounds like Larry the lounge lizard. Here's my contribution:

Indeed. And that dude butchered it!

Not butchered as much as completely rearranged it. The whole album was Boone taking what he saw as good songs from the Heavy Metal Songbook and bringing them over to *his* audience, which included lots of people that would break out in a rash at the sight of a Gibson SG. He took a lot of crap for it, but he stood by his choices. Boone said in an interview that we all have to learn to be more tolerant and not to let appearances turn us away from something that is truly of value.

I'm all for rearrengements. They can sometimes work really great...especially doing full metal songs acoustically..that can be really amazing when done well...
This version here however...if Boone got a lot of crap for doing it, that was all well deserved...as it is in a word. HORRIBLE.

Well, here's one of the best covers I got, Angelique Kidjo doing "Voodoo Child"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36bGFi1U_vw
Gives me goosebumps every time. She's an amazing vocalist and interpreter of the music.

Just found this one, and I have to say I love it:

Glad you liked it. I first heard them 2 years ago, and they have been a great discovery.

A cappella "Metal". Damn Germans... ;D
-
Difference between the Swedes and the Germans:
Swedes like pop music.
Germans like poop music.

Well considering that is hands down Metallica's worst song that ain't saying much...But honestly I really liked her voice!
-
That cover sucked and so did the chick singing it. Metallica and Black Sabbath covers do not work
-
Thing told me the video was unavailable. :squint:

The artist's called Lissie and she did a cover of nothing else matters.

one the rare good Sabbath covers by Entombed , legendary Death Metal band :
-
^^Yeah not bad. The vocals are far less growly or deathly than usual for Entombed.
-
I liked the Lissie cover of "Nothing Else Matters." It's a song Metallica shouldn't have sung, but they did...
James Hetfield can growl, shout, and grimace. Singing? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Here's one I love, the Isley Brothers covering "Listen to the Music" by the Doobie Brothers.

^^ I'm not an expert but every time I listen to 70s Soul music, I think about Glenn Hughes's love for this music and its influence on his singing style. If I had closed my eyes, I would have thought for a moment that it was Glenn at the microphone.

Glenn does proper justice to soul vocals. It's hard for him to hide his love and appreciation for the genre.
Here's another Isley Bros. cover, "Hello It's Me", done originally by fellow Bearsville labelmate Todd Rundgren:

And, yeah, I REALLY hear the similarity with Glenn Hughes on this performance. Wow. Didn't notice it before you mentioned it. Time to awesome somebody! :)

Sorry ZZ, but I can't think of anything positive to say about either of those covers. I really like funk and soul but I didn't like the direction they took with these two classics. Worst of all was the vocals, too weak.

As Sly Stone said, "Different strokes for different folks."
He also said, "Different freaks for different weeks." :twitch:

...and so on and so on and scooby dooby dooby.

So here's some rock for ya, Bog!

If you can't rock out with "Hound Dog", you can't rock, full stop. Any decent band can do wonders with this tune, and Little Richard proves what a genius can do with it. Love this version.

Gillan has some great fun with the Little Richard tune.

These are pretty talented kids here:
The video's cheesy as hell but the singer's got a pretty good Veronica Freeman voice going for her which is nice.
-
^^^^^^
The sound was so spot-on that it makes me wonder how much correction and adjustment was done in the editing phase.

Yeah I don't think they played that one live there either! :D
-
great cover of The Ocean by Moby Dicks band and the mighty Mike Terrena on drums.
through this vid, we can see the immense talent of John Bonham.

Great drummer... and then I thought of this guy because I'm a crazy man like that... :problem:

^^^ yeah , saw this crazy guy once with this one !

Motorhead does another Hawkwind cover... :smug:

Now this one made me LAUGH!
Some dude made a Finnish cover of PAINKILLER!
He actually managed to translate the song almost word for word which is NOT easy while maintaining the vocal meldoy!
-
^^^^^^
I think you have got to make one, Charger.
-
Maybe not.
-
Dangit, that sent me down a rabbit hole and now I know what would have happened if Weird Al Yankovic had been the producer for Van Halen's 1984...
Eläkeläiset - Hump (Jump)
-
Eläkeläiset (The Retirees) is a humor/joke band that I think came out of some kind of humor show back in the 80s...maybe early 90s...
-
I actually like this better than the original. :partay:
-
Here's a bit of a different kind of take on A TOUCH OF EVIL!
-
Bobby Womack and Bill Withers doing a cover of a Rolling Stones cover of a Bobby Womack original. Womack plays a mean guitar on this one, great lines.
-
Texas rockabilly doing some metal - strong version of Rev. Horton Heat and "Ace of Spades".
