So I take it he does not encounter The Batman.

He does... sort of, but at the time this takes place Bruce Wayne is a 10 year old boy, but the film does depict the murder of his parents.

A guy in love with an engaged woman, and best friend, tries to win her over after she asks him to be her maid of honor.  Decent comedy. 7/10

In 12th century England, Robin and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power.  Well staged battles, good cast. 8/10

A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with an operating system designed to be his girlfriend, or as KDC would say, girlfiend.  :))  A bit slow at times but worth a watch. 7/10

Well, talking of the girlfiend we saw Judy yesterday, the new biopic of Judy Garland starring Renee Zellweger.

It's set towards the end of 1968 when she is short of money, is struggling to keep custody of her children and is taking pills the way most people take sweets. She is persuaded to take a residency at London's Talk of the Town theatre, because the Brits still love her! For the most part her heart isn't in it but when she's on stage perfoirming her best known songs she comes alive. Off stage, she drinks too much and is hugely unreliable, with her assistant (the gorgeous Jessie Buckley) running around after her.

There are two contrastig things about this film, firstly, the performances are really good and Zellweger is a shoe in for award nominations; secondly, the plot is about as generic as it is possible to get.

It does effectively portray Garland as a broken character and I'm not in the least bit surprised that 6 months after the stint in London she was dead at 47.  6/10

A doctor uses special eye drops to give himself x-ray vision, but the new power has disastrous consequences.  Great performance by Ray Milland as well as a part by Don Rickles. 7.5/10

Fourth in Hammer's Dracula series of films.  Though all the acting and sets are very good, there is nothing especially new here. 6/10

THE EQUALIZER

Former CIA operative Robert McCall befriends a young hooker who then gets severely beaten by russian gangsters and that wakens his protective instincts and he goes after them with vengeance. It all leads McCall in a world with crooked cops and in odds with a ruthless russian hitman. A brutal cat and mouse game follows where none of his friends are safe which forces McCall to go after the entire russian mob.

Denzel Washington shines in the lead and proves once and again that he too can be a true bad ass.

The movie moves bit slowly in the beginning but once it gets going it gets quite nicely brutal, not Rambo brutal but still surprisngly so. And Washington plays the role to near perfection.

This is based on the 80s UK series of the same name where the lead was played by Edward Woodward. But it has very little in common with the original part from the name and the character. The update is actually quite succesful, times have changed and the bad guys are more brutal so the Equalizer needs to be as well.

Chole Grace Moretz is great as Alina as is Marton Csokas as the sociopathic russian hitman.

This is not as fierce and ferocious as it could have been but actually the slower pace and the more stylistic action sequences work in it's favour. The ending showdown with McCal and Nicolai is the only thing that falls bit short...it could have been more grandious even.

All in all a great grown up action movie which lifts Denzel Washington once and for all amongs the greatest action stars.

This was genuinely entertaining with some definite laugh out loud moments. Better than most of the live action DC superheroes offerings. 8/10

A group of recruits go through Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Polk, Louisiana's infamous Tigerland, last stop before Vietnam for tens of thousands of young men in 1971.  Fine acting led by Colin Farrell. 8/10

Yes! I watched this recently on my flight to China, absolute gem of a film. Powerful story, like Kafka with a garland of flowers at the end.

I had never seen any of the Friday the 13th films.  A friend of mine brought the first one over last night and said it was the only one worth watching.  He was wrong.  :squint:  2/10
