Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt is just perfect but the best performance goes for Daniel Brühl , a real incarnate Niki Lauda.
The sublime appearance of Olivia Wilde seems unreal , perfect Goddess.
8,5/10
Agreed.  An excellent portrayal of 2 professional drivers with very different personalities.

We saw Instant Family yesterday. The comedy/drama starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne as a couple who adopt a teenage girl and then find she comes with 2 younger siblings. It's ok, quite funny in places but the drama feels a little forced. The child actors are really good here and just hi-lights the problem I had with The Kid Who Would Be King recently, basically with few exceptions (ie Harry Potter, A Monster Calls) child actors in the UK are really quite poor. Not really my sort of film. 6/10

Saw The Truman Show again last night. While the technology part hasn't aged well, the concept part proved prophetic. Worth revisiting some of the ideas, now that it's 21 years after its release.

The Miami Showband Massacre - Netflix Documentary

Really strong stuff about the murder of the members of an Irish Showband - the most popular in the country, at the time - by Ulster Unionist forces with a possible connection to British Intelligence Services. Starts out as a crime mystery, then turns into a question about how dirty was the dirty war in Ireland during The Troubles. I recommend it strongly.

I watched The Dirt on Netflix yesterday. Not really sure what to say. It was Okay, nothing great. Problem was I think for me was I already knew all the stories and such reading them in the Rock Magazines. Nothing shocking really. Acting was decent and the scenes dealing with Vince's daughter having Cancer was very emotional. 6.5/10

A drama exploring the romantic past and emotional present of a dying woman and her daughters.  Nothing special.  4.5/10

Yeah, I think I'll give it a miss. There are plenty of other cool things on Netflix for my time.

This was very well done and I totally enjoyed it excluding the fact that it was about 20 minutes to long. Clint played a more realistic version of a cop as opposed to his Dirty Harry roles. 8/10

I've been trying to catch up with some of the classics of film I've never seen before. Last night I saw 12 Angry Men.

It has held up better than I thought it would given it's 60+ years old. There's some good performances but I don't think everyone is great and some of the tension seems forced. The plot is solid but surely some of the evidence they query during their debates must have been covered in court. The hot/sweaty environment worked really well to heighten the tension. I'll give it 7/10

They exists a remake of this film.  Pretty much the same thing but with more recent actors.

A guidance counselor mistakenly sends out the wrong transcripts to Stanford University under the name of an over-achieving high schooler.  He and his quirky family try and correct the problem.  A few laughs. 6.5/10

100% agree ! saw it few weeks ago too. this movie is one the best of the neo-western genre with The Homesman  by and with Tommy Lee Jones.

CAPTAIN MARVEL

MCU is taking a step back in time with this one telling the origin story of Captain Marvel. The events start at the Kree homeworld and then lead to Earth in the mid 90s where Kree soldier Vers comes in contact with Shield agents Fury and Coulson. Both still played by the brilliant Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg just digitally de-aged which worked great.
Vers soon learns things about herself that made her not only question her origin but whether or not she is actually fighting on the ride side of things.

The story ties in quite well with previous Marvel movies including Thor, Guardians Of The Galaxy and ofcourse Infinity War. The action was for the most part quite enjoyable and beautiful to watch like always with Marvel movies. The humor was also mostly top notch.
Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Clark Gregg and especially Ben Mendelsohn all did a great job. In fact they all outshined the lead in every aspect.

But this was not without it's fair share of problems too. Starting with Brie Larson. So far Marvel has had a great knack at picking leads...but now they unfortunately hit a giant miss. Larson looked very uncomfortable through out the movie, her humor was quite forced and at times out right terrible and it was clear she wasn't enjoying the role.
Another big problem was just how incredibly powerful they made the character. Granted I suppose the character that bears the name of the studio kind of needs to be the most powerful one of them all but clearly this was pushing it a bit already with her just flying through large space ships and destroying them. It did not feel right.

But like almost always with Marvel movies this still was highly entertaining and quite enjoyable. But as far as ranking this among the other Marvel movies I'd say this is clearly the worst. Ofcourse not counting Raimi's Spiderman, the Hulk movies and Deadpool which all were rather horrible...

* * *

I'd rank the Marvel series something like this:
Avengers
Guardians
Iron Man
Captain America
Thor
Doctor Strange

All at 4 or 5 star ratings

Then bit below them:
Venom 3½
AntMan 3½

Somewhat below them
Captain Marvel

A whole heap below that
Spiderman
Deadpool
Hulk

Still haven't seen Black Panther though nor the most recent Spiderman reboot.
