Interesting look at the red planet. 7/10

love this movie too but I prefer Red Planet , despite the bad reviews and released the same year (2000).

What did you think of The Martian (reply #290)?  I like it more than the other 2.

If it wasn't for the political threads, I'd be worried that I'm the same person as Typhon... The Martian, to me, is a very strong film that strives to be as good at hard science as the book was. There will still be things that Mythbuster types could try and poke holes in, but we also have to suspend some disbelief and assume that some zapotron rays or unobtanium alloys were used to solve the problems that now enable us to enjoy some good sci-fi that doesn't involve aliens, romance, or operatic elements. Its Man vs. Nature and is a great survival story.

Romance flick about a guy who's wife dies in a car crash, her heart is used in a transplant to save another woman's life, and the guy meets that woman by chance and falls in love with her.  She stumbles upon the fact that she has his dead wife's heart and now is afraid to tell him.  The movie works because of good acting and a strong cast.  David Duchovny, Minnie Driver, Carroll O'Conner, Robert Loggia, Bonnie Hunt, Jim Belushi. 7/10

2 in a row doesn't make a streak, but at least you seem to be wising up a bit. :smug:

Agreed. The Martian is the best but all are good imo.
Red Planet: I like the fight between Kilmer and the robot as well as its search for energy resources in the various abandoned explorer ships on the planet. OK, love his relationship with Carrie-Anne Moss. More a Action/War movie than a pure Alien/Sci-fi production.

Mission to Mars : the soundtrack is fantastic . The rescue attempt of Tim Robbins alone is worth watching the movie. The spaceship 's so beautiful , a true "character".
When the team arrives on Mars, we move into another style discoveries after discoveries ... til the end.

Tend to agree with everything said here...

But I guess I'd put Red Planet and The Martian on the same line honestly...

Number 17 on my top 50.

Gary Busey was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award here and it was well deserved.  Terrific performance and great film.  8.5/10

The Buddy Holly story was the first adult movie that I can remember seeing. I must have watched it a 100 times at least. A 9/10 in my book, just a great story and excellent music.

I have not seen that.  I'll have to check it out.  It is available at my local library.
