SKYSCRAPER

A group of violent criminals take over the tallest building in the world and set it on fire in order to obtain something from the Hong Kong based business man and builder of the tower. By a strike of bad luck the Security consultant Will Sawyer's family get trapped in the towering inferno and he has no choice but try to access the burning building to rescue them.

The plot borrows some from the classics Die Hard and Towering Inferno but makes it work. It manages to keep just enough orginality to avoid being overly cliche-ish.

Dwayne Johnson who plays Will has come a long way as an actor. Sure he isn't gonna be winning any oscars but he too has gained some charisma over the years and has a strong enough presense for an action movie like this. There aren't too many younger action stars out there anymore to take the mantle from guys like Sly and Arnie who are getting on with the years now...Dwayne has something of the same.

It's also great to see the lovely Neve Campbell back in lead role again and she wasn't just some shrinking violet either. Danish Roland Möller does a pretty good job as the villain Kores Botha without overacting and Chin Han is good as the mysterious Skyscraper owner but it's Hannah Quinlivan as the Botha's #1 henchman who steals every scene she's in...she plays the role so softly...such beauty that can be so deadly...stunning really.

For someone like me who suffers from severe case of fear of hights this movie is extra intense...I found myself gripping the handles of my seat for more than once during some of the wilder high stunts...which were plenty and they were extremely well done...even if not always 100% believable...but then again 100% reality isn't something that you would even want from a movie like this.

The one thing that let the movie down was it's lack of humor. There were few instances where a good one liner or a funny comeback would have been needed to lighten the mood. A movie like this cannot be too serious...this just narrowly avoided that. More humor would have made it more enjoyable.

A good solid action movie non the less. And it is nice to see Dwayne Johnson has improved quite a bit over the years. I won't look it as a negative anymore if I see his name appear in a movie from now on.

After a week on vacation and feeling more tired after that than when I work, I just chilled and watched some Marvel movies. Wife and I are behind in the Super Hero landscape and we have watched Marvel movies out of order big time. First two I never saw before. The next two I have seen multiple times.

Captain America: The First Avenger. Great movie and explained a lot more for me.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Not as good as the first Captain America, but still very good. Besides can't be that bad when Scarlett Johansson is in it.  :smug:

The Avengers and The Avengers age of Ultron. Love these movies.

I just bought that in the cut out bin at a store in the mall that has movies and CDs along with a growing Vinyl section.
I have not watched it yet but I hear and read great things about it. I am a fan of Ray and also just picked up a compilation from 1959!! Great music  :wootwoot:

Jamie Foxx does an excellent job of portraying Ray Charles, hands down one of the most talented actors out there. The music is great throughout the film, which focuses on Ray's life from 1948-1966, with flashbacks to his youth. There's some jostling of timelines to make a movie of things, but it's overall very accurate in its timings of events. The conflict is clearly stated at the start of the film, "Don't let nobody make a cripple of you", which is then explored to its depths in the film.

If you have a version with the "extended scenes" available as an option, I would recommend not adding them. It breaks the flow of the film and can break the mood more than once. Watch the deleted scenes after you've seen the film - they were edited for a reason, after all.

Amazing !
clearly the best Marvel I've ever seen
9/10 , the missing point being due to the absence of Banner's alter-ego.
