:D Oh I see what you did there!

Been a long time since I saw these...might have to watch them again...I remember thinking when I first heard Matt Damon was gonna lead an action movie that worst possible casting EVER but he actually pulled it off really really well!

I've never liked her. She always oozes that "ooh I am so good, I got an oscar, I am the best" arrogant vibe in everything she does. The word "bitch" comes to mind every time I see her. One of the most overrated actresses of our time. I usually go out of my way to avoid all movies she is in...

I can understand bro '  8) !
but I admit. I've been in love with Cate Blanchett since the Lord of the Rings. Confirmation with Babel, Benjamin Button, Hanna and Ragnarok.
An atypical cold beauty. She has something special.

Very good movie. Joaquin Phoenix is possessed by the character. A rare performance ... but I must say that scenes of uncontrolled laughter are too insistent end up annoying me. The film is really disturbing. For the rest, we can now forget Heath Ledger ,far too overated for my taste. Joaquin Phoenix reaches another dimension.

I can agree with that "something special" part... But maybe not in the way you mean! ;D

Wow , a really good racing cars movie . Great acting with Matt Damon and a perfect Christian Bale as usual. Different from the fantastic "Rush" , with Daniel Brühl and Chris Hemsworth.

A bounty hunter learns that his next target is his ex-wife, a reporter working on a murder cover-up.  Aniston and Butler work well together, making this a worthwhile comedy/drama. 7/10

A busy few days, I've seen The Personal History of David Copperfield, Dolittle and The Farewell on rental.

The Personal History of David Copperfield is an adaptation of the Charles Dickins classic by Armando Iannucci (best known for director/writer/creator of The Death of Stalin, Veep, The Thick Of It among much more), and is a racially blind retelling of the story, indeed 4 or 5 of the main cast are black including Dev Patel as the titular David Copperfield. There is a fine supporting cast including Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi, Paul Whitehouse and Ben Whishaw. The story tells the life from birth to adulthood of Copperfield, reflecting the wealth and poverty of the era and the people he meets. I don't know if the original book was a tragi-comedy in the way this film is, but it is a very funny film but with liberal elememts of the tragic. Great performances all round. 8/10

Dolittle we saw at a preview on Saturday (it doesn't open in the UK until Friday 7th Feb). I had high hopes when the film was first announced with its great cast including Robert Downey Jnr (as Dolittle), Emma Thompson, Antonio Banderas, John Cena, Tom Holland, Octavia Spencer, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent... I could go on! But in the run up to release, it started to get indifferent reviews and it opened poorly in the US. We went to see it anyway, and while it isn't the greatest of movies it was pretty enjoyable and the CGI animals and voice performances were impeccable.

The plot tells the story of Dolittle being tasked to find the antidote to an illness that will otherwise kill Queen Victoria. This involves sailing to some far flung part of the world where danger ensues. The plot is a little flimsy but you don't want anything too deep for your average family audience. 7/10

The Farewell starring Awkwafina as the grand daughter of an old lady who has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and only has a few months to live. Her family decide not to tell her that she is dying and arrange a wedding to allow all her extended family members to visit her one last time without making it look suspicious. There are comedic elements to the film but it is essentially a drama. Mostly it is subtitled, but when Awkwafina's character and her parents chat they talk in English as they are visiting from New York where they have lived for many years.

It's an ok film, I'm not a fan of subtitled films especially when they "fly by" because the English translation takes many more words than the native tongue. Mandarin is a quick language and I just can't keep up with the subtitles partuicularly when they are in white text and displayed over the film... if it'a against a pale background they are unreadable! This detracts from what might otherwise have been an enjoyable film... bring back dubbing!!! 5/10
