Divinity 2 Original Sin: Definitive Edition
« on: August 03, 2020, 08:39:17 AM »
Just started getting into this, and damn, I'm getting into this!

The rave reviews of the game on Steam are not lying. This is every bit as interactive and immersive and open-ended as Ultima 7, my previous fave RPG ever.

I'm slow on the reflexes, so I'm very glad for the turn-based combat and a general lack of the game demanding a skilled degree of hand-eye coordination on my part.

Storywise, it's rich, engrossing, and very morally ambiguous. That means you got some tough, sticky, wet, nasty, no-right-answer kinds of choices to make, and that's great story, right there. There are also different difficulty settings so if you want a mode that focuses primarily on the story (which I do), you got that mode. You can still get your ass handed to you on a platter if you walk into the wrong area before you're at a high enough level to deal with it, but thank goodness for the autosaves that kick off just before you make a decision that you will immediately regret.

The music is amazing, the story lines are well-woven, and I can see myself doing more than just this one run. I picked it up on a Steam sale and I've already gotten my money's worth out of it as of 3:34 PM this last Saturday. All the fun I have with it from now on is on the house.

Anyone else playing / played this?

I bought it a few years ago but I never got around to playing it. I have heard really good things about it though and it was recommended to me by a few friends that are more into gaming and are knowledgeable about such things.

I might get inspired to throw it on my PS4.

I'm going to recommend you get around to playing it. Good gosh, this is a fun RPG! I've got one run where I have loads of giftbags and mods running because I like to play OP and another run where I'm doing things by the book and getting my achievements. I've learned that you can wander around and do things in different orders for the most part, but there *are* parts of the maps where you don't go until you've leveled up for them. They generally don't kill you right away and you have a chance to see the levels of the opponents... when you're level 9, believe you me you don't go walking in a level 14 neighborhood after dark!

But once you learn that the terrain is there to help guide you along to where you need to go, you go with the flow and have a wonderful time.
