Inferno

Take all the best things about “Bastards” and “Sacrifice” combine them together and you pretty much get “Inferno”. For me, the greatest Motörhead album post Ace of Spades, headlined by Phil Campbell’s scorching guitar work, Mikkey Dee’s powerful drumming and Lemmy Kilmister at his dirty & mean best. Fast, aggressive, heavy, catchy and just killer from start to finish with stellar production.

Favourite tracks “Terminal Show”, “Killer”, All in the Name of Tragedy”, “Down On Me” “In The Black” “Smiling Like A Killer” and the fun acoustic blues ditty “Whorehouse Blues” which features some cool Harmonica playing from Lemmy.

Everything you love about Motörhead is embedded in this album...

Love the cover and love the album. Picked it up for 2.99 at a pawn shop in 90 or 91. This one flew under the radar with most of my friends and interest in Motorhead declined until 1916 came out.

This one took me by surprise and quickly became a favorite.  Great songs and the production captures the band in their chaotic brilliance.

ACE OF SPADES

One of those classics that you just find yourself enjoying again and again. With tracks like the title track, Shoot You In The Back, Fast And Loose, We Are The Road Crew and The Chase Is Better Than The Catch are all among the bands finest. But it's not completely without weak numbers either, ones like Dance, Fire Fire and Jailbait are ones that I tend to skip. But even with those this album has deserved it's place among some of metal's biggest classics and I can fully appreciate why the title track became their greatest hit and why it influenced the thrash metal genre so.

The iconic cover art is an odd one among the bands catalogue for not featuring the mascot Snaggletooth at all...instead the band dressed up like desperados...which also has very little to do with the title or the title track. And odd choice for a cover but it works...really really well in fact.

I've got through several of the albums I bought and played a few that I haven't listened to recently. I don't think I've listened to March or Die in a long, long time (20+ years!!), but it's so much better than I remember. Of the new ones (to me anyway) I think Kiss of Death is the most enjoyable. My top 10 is shaping up nicely but I still have a few albums to get through, either for the first time or to confirm where they should appear on the list.

I’m not even gonna add my little take on my last 2 picks. The covers speak for themselves.
They’re both stone cold classics and iconic albums which everyone knows...

I will just add though...There is absolutely nothing between them. They’re practically the same albums musically and equally brilliant, only separated by a track or a personal attachment to a certain time in one’s life that elevates one slightly above the other...And in my case, Overkill the album was my introduction to Motörhead, that along with the greatness of it's title track puts it just at the very top of my list.

2 - Overkill

#1 - Ace of Spades

Jack is on the money; it's a toss up for me. And not just for those two releases. In a broader sense, there are albums I enjoy more than others, or that I feel are "better" than others (production, gusto, etc.), but they're all good - some are greatness.

This will always be a favorite Motorhead album. One amazing song after the other.

I have the Sanctuary Records 2005 2CD deluxe edition and even the bonus tracks are great.

Even though this is the Motorhead album that I have listened to the least in the past five years it is is still a firm favorite of mine, so much so that it is number 2. It was the only Motorhead album my dad liked for some reason so that has a lot to do with it being held so high.

One of my fav albums period, this is Motorhead at their best.

I guess my Number 2 wasn't such a big surprise after all as Jack picked it as number 3 to my big surprise and admiration! Awesome point goes your way for that!

INFERNO

This album is probably the heaviest, fastest, hardest, most metal album in Motörhead's vast discography and for all those reasons it's a firm favourite of mine. I think this is the album that I have listened to the most!
The album contains my absolute favourite Motörhead tune of all time, the hard hitting KILLERS! The drive of that song is something special...and the lyrics...the line "We kill you till you die!" is the kind of perfection only Lemmy could come up with!
But the rest of the album is no slouch either! The fast and furious opener Terminal Show sets the pace to an album you know is gonna rock hard. The brilliant In The Name Of Tragedy completes the best opening trio in the bands career. Suicide slows things down a bit, but only a bit still maintaining the ultra heaviness. Fight and Smiling Like A Killer are another absolute stars, the only real weak moment on the album is the dragging Keys To The Kingdom. The album closer is one of Motörhead's oddest (and best) songs of all time, the brilliant acoustic number Whorehouse Blues, which also features the only thing that's missing...a little mouth harp blues...but you know they can do that too!

An absolutely brilliant album and this also features their GREATEST art work as well!

^^^Nice I’m glad someone else on here loves Inferno as much as I do. You shouldn’t be surprised though. I’ve mentioned it quite a bit over the years.
