Day 9 for me

A few years back I went through a period of catching up on the films in the IMDb top 250 that i had never seen (all except foreign language, any Charlie Chaplin film and some other real oldies). That's when I discovered a load of films from the 90s such as Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile and LA Connection, all amazing films and all in the running for my 10. LA Connection has a superb cast with many fine performances and of course a great story well told.

Damn I've fallen behind on this one a bit!

So Day 5:

I think this was my first Chavy Chase movie that I saw...either this or Spies Like Us.

The groovy feel of the movie, Faltermeyer's brilliant music and the theme song Bit By Bit were real ear worms back in the day...I remember I used to hum it all the time...just like Beverly Hills Cop but that's another story for another day ( ;) )

Growing up 80s movies especially action comedies were a big part of it and this one left a strong impression for sure.

I discovered this film manyyears after its release (1973) by hearing and reading glowing reviews.
I was discovering  Hard Rock/Heavy Metal world at the time. Satanic imagery fascinated me. The dread/Terror side (Epouvante in French) more than a more common side of Horror à la Evil Dead further increased its attraction.
My god, this image of Merrin facing the call of Pazuzu ...

Real Fear provoked by this evil vibes.
A movie that penetrates the person watching it.
I read the book after as well. Unpleasant feeling to see this big black book put on my bedside table for some days. so Special.

Day 9

I first encountered Depardieu in a film I watched for a History class in college, La Retour de la Martin Guerre (The Return of Martin Guerre). Fascinating, riveting performance, and I had to have more of his craft!

Then, in 1990, this came along and I was floored. It makes me emotional to even type about it, but such is my passion for how Depardieu played the man from Gascony with the huge... uh... panache! I can watch this movie any time, any day, and have it fit the occasion. The story and the performance are, in a word, complete.

Perhaps my favorite movie of all time, and when it came out I was an instant FANatic!!! The cast was so strong and the special effects still hold up. I really love this movie and It still greatly entertains me when I revisit it.

There’s some movies I would’ve liked to include but couldn’t squeeze them in the 10 so I’m gonna do a bonus day with 5 movies worth a mention that were all quite impactful on me.

Day 11(Bonus Day)

The Warriors

Great movie, a lot of memorable scenes. One of the first real bad ass movies I saw. I wanted to join a gang after watching it.

First Blood

Very Impactful and original story, gripping action. One of Stallone’s best.

The Terminator

The sequel is better but it all started here. Ahead of its time and I much preferred Arnie as the Cyborg Assassin.

Highlander

Immortal Warriors that can only be killed by beheading battle it out in modern NYC. Great sword action, brilliant and very likeable performance from Sean Connery and The Kurgan is such a bad ass. Queen’s soundtrack is killer!

King Of New York

Dark, sinister and ultra cool gangster movie. Gang vs Gang vs Cops. One of my favourite Christopher Walken performances. Great supporting cast of which Laurence Fishburne is a standout.  Very underrated gangster movie.

The last day for me, and just to recap#:

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Changeling
The Green Mile
Inside Out
The Avengers
The Raid/The Raid 2
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Life of Brian
LA Confidential

and now #10

Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Guilermo del Toro's sequel to what was itself a great debut. It is full of imagination, humour and emotion, with some great actors including Doug Jones and Ron Perlman who is perfact as Hellboy. This film knocked my socks off when I first saw it in the cinema... and I've been a fan of del Toro ever since.

great ! I love Depardieu.
another french classic with the mighty Gérard , Jean De Florette and Manon des Sources.
In the second trailer , yes it's Emmanuelle Béart (23) 10 years before Mission Impossible and without botox . Just sublime .

Back to the Future is my youngest daughter's favorite, she's fanatic about the series.

And yes, I loved Jean de Florette and Manon!

And, speaking of France... I will have as my #10 film the great combination of Bruce Willis and Metal Hurlant, The Fifth Element.

Whenever I'm in a mood to watch all the Star Wars movies, I watch Star Wars and then this one and call it a day.

Speaking of Metal Hurlant, I'll also add Jodorowsky's Dune as a bonus film. The documentary outlines the greatest sci-fi epic never made. But so many ideas from it made their way into other films and bandes dessines that it's like that was a failed harvest that scattered seeds around the world.

So so so many great films already picked...

Day 6:

I have to go with my favourite of the Leone trilogy...this was the first one I saw and I remember wanting to be like Clint Eastwood...even made a poncho from my moms quilt...needless to say she wasn't happy that I cut a hole in the middle for my head...

But the movie is amazing non the less and Clint Eastwood is still one of my biggest heroes...and Ennio Morricone's music is sublime to say the least. One of the best composers in history along with John Williams....

Day 7

I was a huuuuuge western fan when I was a kid...still am actually, but back then I absolutely loved them...anything with John Wayne was pretty much pure gold. And this particular one is probably my all time favourite western and one of my all time favourite movies. The cast, the action, the humor, the brilliant directing of the legendary Howard Hawks, the music...

One of the best movies of all time:

This is such a great movie and since Dean Martin is in it makes it all the better. Great performances by 90% of the actors/actresses.
