Nuremberg (2025)

In postwar Germany, an American psychiatrist (Rami Malek) must determine whether Nazi prisoners are fit to go on trial for war crimes, and finds himself in a complex battle of intellect and ethics with Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe), Hitler's right-hand man.

This is a top-notch presentation of how this trial came to be, but also the thought processes of the key players on all sides.  Terrific performances by Crowe and Malek.  You know a film is great when its 2 1/2 hour length goes by without ever noticing the time.  A superb piece of work.  10/10

I rather enjoyed that one too. Still think it's one of Crowe's best efforts in decades

SHELTER

After a mysterious recluse living on an lonely island saves a young girl from drowing he has to go into town to get her supplies and there gets spotted by an all seeing government survailance system and a hit squad is sent for him and the girl. It soon becomes evident that the same governmental agency the man used to work for now wants him dead.

Jason Statham shows his softer side and his aging side in this very stylish action film with Director Ric Roman Waugh who delivers great and bit unusual action sequences, including a lengthy car chase with no music, which is a nice nod back to some of the old 70s movies...and something that just isn't done anymore.

This is something of Statham's version of the Equalizer, some drama, then fast action and then more drama and fast action. Very well paced movie.

The young girl is played by Bodhi Rae Breathnach who does a great job and the leader of the clandestine agency is actor legend Bill Nighy.

Statham's charisma keeps building as the years go on...another hit this one.

Where Eagles Dare (1968)

During World War II, an American general has been captured and is being held hostage in the Schloss Adler, a Bavarian castle that's nearly impossible to breach.  It's up to a group of skilled Allied soldiers, led by Major Smith (Richard Burton) and an American assassin (Clint Eastwood), to liberate the general before it's too late.

Good drama with great bits of action throughout the film.  9/10

Where Eagles Dare is one hell of a movie
Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood both shine in the film
Written by Alistair McLean (I am not sure how to spell his name) who wrote many excellent books mainly about World War 2

I actually chose to watch this movie because it contained a few actors that appeared in several films from my Hammer/Amicus/Tigon horror movie collections.  I do that now and then.

In Where Eagles Dare there wee 3:  Patrick Wymark, Ingrid Pitt, Anton Diffring.

Agree 100% - Where Eagles Dare is just stellar.

Payback (1999)

A professional thief (Mel Gibson) is left for dead when his wife and partner steal his heist money.  After 5 months of recuperating, he pursues the 2 only to find out that the crooked partner used the money to pay off a debt to the mob.  So he decides to get the money back from them.

Well done man-on-a-mission story that moves right along without a dull moment.  Gibson is great, and so are mob bosses William Devane, Kris Kristofferson and James Coburn.  9/10

Citizen Vigilante (2026)

Set in Europe in a society of crimes going unpunished, a man takes justice into his own hands by hunting down criminals.  His vigilante crusade makes him a social media star.

This film has been banned in Germany and is controversial in a few other areas of Europe because it is saying what a lot of people are thinking but are too afraid to state out loud.  That is, immigrants commit assaults and rapes, and the victims are being blamed.  In one scene, after a group of young males gang rape a teenage girl, the family of one of the boys blames the girl for the way she was dressed.  This pretty much goes along with the news reports I have been reading.

The movie's overall message is crystal clear.  If the government does not protect its people from criminals, then the people have to protect themselves.  7/10

Mysterious Island (1961)

During the US Civil War, Union POWs escape in a balloon and end up stranded on a South Pacific island, inhabited by giant plants and animals.  They must use their ingenuity to survive the dangers, and to devise a way to return home.  Unbeknownst to them, they are being helped by Captain Nemo (Herbert Lom).

I remember watching this film, more than once, as a young boy over 50 years ago.  But this is the first time I saw it on today's wide screens in HD.  Great memories.  8/10

Kirk Douglas' Odyssey flick, yeah, good boyhood memories there, as well.
