I didn't mind them even though the plots got a little silly/contrived at times. Hanks was indeed a good choice for Langdon.

An American in Paris

Gene Kelly's masterwork of dance coupled with words and music from Ira and George Gershwin. A bittersweet tale of intersecting romances, all given life with the dances and songs. Beautiful and intelligent use of color, incredibly well-acted, and tons of heart in this picture. It's my new favorite movie, 10 out of 10, would see again.

I saw DaVinci Code way back when it came out but honestly didn't remember half of it anymore...but it was bit better than I remembered.

Now I still need to track down Inferno...

Today is my wife's birthday - she just got home from the hospital a few days ago after having spent a week in there for sepsis. So, I agreed to watch a movie with her.

She chose "Marcel the Shell with Shoes".

Going into it, I was of a mind that the movie would be ridiculous. It has a running time of 99 minutes, and I could not fathom what plot would fill that kind of time about a stop animation snail.

Within five minutes I was laughing - this "shell with shoes" always wanted a dog for a pet, but since that's impossible, he tied a string around a small piece of lint and drags it around like a pet. He named it Alan. Holy shit lol.

It turned out to be one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Part comedy, part drama, it really surprised me.

VAN HELSING

A bit different tale of the famous monster hunter takes Van Helsing to Transilvania to kill Count Dragula...on the way he faces off with Mr. Hyde and Frankenstein's Monster and some warewolfs.

A quite action heavy package with very nice visual effects (for its time) and Hugh Jackman does a good job on the lead and Kate Beckinsale is decent enough as well on the female lead but Richard Roxburgh does a great Dracula!

Stephen Sommers (The Mummy movies) takes a very different approach once again to the classic Universal monsters and gives the world a nice cyberpunk feel which is something I've always liked.

All in all a very entertaining movie, but old school monstermovie purists might want to steer clear of this one.

Growing up Catholic I always thought that the DaVinci Code and it's sequel were laughable Theologically but still very good movies.

With all the talks about the new King (yawn) I thought I would re-watch The  Lion in Winter with Peter O'Toole as King Henry the second and Katherine Hepburn as his wife Eleanor. Also Anthony Hopkins as Henry's son Richard and Timothy Dalton as King Philip of France.

Just an amazing movie with incredible performances by nearly all involved.

Agree with Thel, that was a very good movie. And for anyone who might have forgotten (or never knew) what made Peter O'Toole great (beyond tabloid headlines) they will find it in The Lion in Winter.

GHOSTBUSTERS Afterlife

Callie and her two kids Pheobe and Trevor inherit an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma where Callie's father died. Soon mysterious events start to occur and Pheobe soon learns that her grand father was no other than Egon Spengler. Soon they run into some ghosts and learn of something very sinister occuring in a near by old mine. With the help of Phoebe's science teacher they learn of the history of the mine and that an ancient being might be coming.

Jason Reitman (Ivan's son) creates a near masterpiece that pays perfect homage to the original film (and completely thankfully ignores the atrocious "reboot" done few years ago) as well as creates something new. The characters are great, especially young Phoebe (played by the briliant McKenna Grace) is almost a younger version of Egon which is so lovely and Carrie Coon does a great job in her first comedic role and the movie ofcourse also reunites her with a fellow Marvel Paul Rudd who plays the teacher.
But ofcourse the real EVENT of the movie takes place near the end when certain Venkman, Stanz and Zeddemore come to aid in the fight against their old nemesis.

This is pretty much a perfect example how to make proper reboot. Respecting the old and creating new.
The humor was top notch, the action sequences brilliant and the effects were old school but still looking modern.
The end dedication to the late great Harold Ramis was beyond touching as well...

Hands down one of the best reboots/sequels of all time. Would not mind if part 2 would soon follow.

The sequel is due in December. Same main cast, but I don't know if the cameos will return.

I thought it was a bit slow at the start but ended really well.

Really? That's awesome!

I'm sure it'll feature a connection to Vigo then!

Yeah the start was a bit slow but I thought it still built up really well for what's to come.
