We had Edward Scissorhands and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Vyn was hilarious in Christmas Vacation, one of my fave films for the holiday.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi

A group of scientists have developed the Resonator, a machine which allows whoever is within range to see beyond normal perceptible reality. But when the experiment succeeds, they are immediately attacked by terrible life forms.  A lot of gore with little story. 5/10

^ yeah, I remember going in as an HPL fan and walking out pretty early into it as an extremely nauseous person disappointed with another missed HPL adaptation...

Family movie night was watching the Netflix "behind the scenes" about Elf, and then watching Elf with a new sense of appreciation.

Stranded on Mars with only a monkey as a companion, an astronaut must figure out how to find oxygen, water, and food on the lifeless planet.  Saw this film as a teenager.  Not that great, more of a trip down memory lane. 6.5/10

We were working through our fave Xmas episodes of Britcoms over the weekend. "A Christmassy Ted" is one of my favorites, hilarious episode from a great series.

That is a good episode, I particularly love the sequence where the priests get lost in the lingerie dept, hilarious!

Just watched Soul today with the family, absolutely loved it. It's a very deep piece about life and coming to peace with its trials and meaning. Brilliant film, as great as Inside Out.

Wife wanted to see Wonder Woman 1984, so we got that on right now. I'm doing other stuff while it plays, but I'm here for tech support since we got a new setup in the den. We got a soundbar for the TV and we're streaming the film off the gaming PC since HBOMAX app won't play on LG televisions.

So far WW1984 has definitely nailed the 80s mall look 'n' feel.

WW1984 - the missus enjoyed it, but not as much as the previous one. That may have been to do with the film not being on the BIG BIG BIIIIIG screen, where action movies play out the best. You don't really need a massive screen with THX Dolby for "My Dinner with Andre", but you do apparently for a special effects-heavy superhero movie.

But it was still fun.

HP Lovecraft's COLOR OUT OF SPACE.

A family is living on the outskirts of Arkham in a beautiful farm when suddenly a strange metorite crashes to their yard and things slowly start to get very very strange and the family begins to change bit by bit into something odd and dangerous along with their farm animals and the whole nature around them.

Nicolas Cage and Joely Richardson star as the father and mother and both do rather good job in showcasing their slow demise to dementia and then to things far far worse. All of this is witnessed by their 3 children of which Madeleine Arthur as Lavinia does the greatest preformance of them all.

HP Lovecraft is a master of horror and he paints pictures slowly and strongly and leaves much to the imagination and writer/director Richard Stanley does a great job in capturing that slowly building horror in the movie. Most of the horror is ambient, but there are it's fair share of monsters involved as well, but action is kept to the minimum. Some of the makeup is spectacular resembling The Thing in many ways...seemingly also done practically which is nice.

Richard Stanley has stated that this movie is the start of a trilogy and the legendary Dunwich horror would be next...I for one would welcome that with open arms as this was a very well done adaptation and a very strong slowly moving classic horror film.

Saturday Night Sci-Fi

An alien must pose as a human to save his dying planet, but a woman and greed of other men create complications.  Not that easy to follow, probably because I was getting bored at times. 6/10

The Final Cut version (2007)

I didn't know that there were 8 versions of this masterpiece.
The main differences relate to differences with the final cut version are:
the addition of Harrison Ford's voiceover, fortunately deleted. I've never seen this version.
the appearance of the Unicorn, explaining everything.
the Happy ending on a sunny mountain road (sequence from The Shinning) also deleted in the final version.

It’s the first time I’ve watched it keeping in my mind what Dekard’s true nature is. It changes everything .

Read the novel, as well. It's a whole new experience with the material, one of my favorite books.

Been watching a lot of holiday classics, yesterday I watched Rudolph and Frosty’s Shiny New Year, reminds me of the times when I was a kid and couldn’t wait for these to come on tv.

Yeah, I'd watch them regularly because cartoons during grown-up prime time was awesome in a "kids rule!" kind of way. Good times. :smug:
