I made my list based on how often I reach for those albums when I want to hear some music. Most frequent on top, least frequent down the list.

This is where we need that top 200 list to fit in all our choices. The top 20 is agonizing to pick through, the bottom 180 are pretty easy to fill out with whatever didn't make the top 20. :smug:

I kind of did the same. Thought about albums that have stayed on heavy rotation even after 20 years.

There were albums that I loved a lot 15 or 20 years ago but have since been all but forgotten so obviously albums like that can't get on the list.

Speaking of which it's time for

Part II:

15. Metal Church – XI
14. Slayer – God Hates Us All
13. Deep Purple – Infinite
12. DIO – Killing The Dragon
11. Candlemass – Death Magic Doom

Moving onward to Part III

10. Black Label Society – 1919 Eternal
9. Jon Oliva’s Pain – Maniacal Renderings
8. Nightwish - Imaginaerum
7. Alice Cooper – Brutal Planet
6. Benedictum – Uncreation

Here I'm gonna explain a bit... With BLS it could have been Mafia too...both are absolutely suberb albums but I do like the heavier side of 1919 more.

Also honestly any JOP album could have made the list but the title track and Through The Eyes Of The King are just fantastic.

Your list is very, very metal. :)

Well that was kind of the point right? This was supposed to be a Hard Rock / Metal list? :D

True, true. Mine's more hard rock, much less metal. We're definitely covering the spectrum between all of the submissions here.

Indeed.

I could have added several non metal albums as well but my god that would have made it even MORE difficult then...

I modified my list,  I hadn't seen I left Black Sabbath 13 out, that album was long awaited, couldn't leave 13 out, and a good album I must say.

Honorable mentions, Rainbow-Memories In Rock and Black Sabbath-The End, I hadn't added The End because it's an EP.

And of course Candlemass-Door To Doom.

And then it's time for my top 5.

5. Rob Zombie – Hellbilly Deluxe II
4. Heaven & Hell – The Devil You Know
3. DIO – Magica
2. Iced Earth – The Glorious Burden
1. Blaze Bayley – The Tenth Dimension

And here you see my one album per band rule being broken...but then again if any band deserves to have two albums on this list it is DIO.

20 albums is such a small ammount....you are forced to leave out some killer albums there is no way around that.

Artists that didn't make it to the list at all but that could have:
Doro (with either Fear No Evil or Calling The Wild both suberb albums)
Death Penalty (S/T one of the best single album projects in history from Cathedral guitarist Gaz Jennings, wish this band would have carried on)
Witchburn (This Is How We Slay Our Demons is suberb, but just didn't make it to the list)
Anthrax (either Worship Music or For All Kings...both great, but again, there was only room for 20)
Solitude Aeturnus (Alone is without a doubt a DOOOOM masterpiece)

Then ofcourse the two big ones Judas Priest and Iron Maiden...
From Priest Nostradamus and Firepower were into consideration but just didn't quite make the cut as neither is flawless.
From Maiden Brave New World was a contender for a long time, but honestly what zzz said about albums worthy of this list should still be in heavy rotation and all that made it to the top 20 are. But Brave New World is not. I was totally blown away by this album when it came out, but as time as moved on it has become bit more stale. The songs just don't grip me the way that they used to. Also the title track is one of the most boring songs Maiden has ever done. Hands down their worst title track ever. But this still remains my favourite post reunion album but it can't touch the likes of Powerslave or The X Factor...not even close.

This could have easily been a top 30 list...or top 40 if I would have wanted to include non-metal bands too...then we'd have the likes of Melanie C, Sarah Brightman, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Garbage, Sahara Hotnights and the Cranberries included I think...

But all this means is that the 2000s have so far been a pretty darn good time for heavy metal music...and some still dare to claim metal is dead...fuck that. We are metal...and metal never dies!

Love this quote Charger, Metal will never die!

I also agree about Dio.

Okay time for a bit of a summary for now...

Metal Chuch - XI   2
Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden   2
Slayer - God Hates Us All   2
Down - II    2
Megadeth - Dystopia    2
Heaven & Hell - Radio City Music Hall Live   2
Motörhead - Inferno   2
Deep Purple - Infinite   2

DIO - Killing The Dragon   3

Black Sabbath - 13     4
Iron Maiden - Brave New World   4
Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know 4

So now it would seem that the favourite 3 are Sabbath, Maiden and H&H...which is funny as 2 of them didn't even make it to my list! :D

I think I missed a few that had 2 points though...so feel free to add them.

But I am still happy that quite a few albums appear on many of our lists.

Sounds like we need a help and hurt game to get the rankings just right on those... Don't know if The Devil You Know really is better than Dystopia, for example... but I'd also need to catch up on the albums I haven't listened to, as well, before I could make an honest vote on them.

That ain’t gonna work. Our lists are quite varied. I doubt anyone is gonna take the time to listen to other people albums they’re not versed in, and one listen doesn't cut it anyway.

Yeah that wouldn't be fair at all...

I think we'll just compile a list of bands that have gotten more than one pick and go from there and ofcourse band/album that has the most picks would be the over all favourite.
