Which Bands Best Carry the Sabbath Style?

We have to face it - even if the members of Black Sabbath get together for *one more album*, or even 2 or 3 or 4, their output comes to an end. That being said, they were hugely influential. HUGELY. Going through Bandcamp, there are a ton of bands that either describe themselves or are described by fans as "Sabbath-like". I've seen comparisons to Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, and even Barclay James Harvest, but none as commonly as "Sabbath-like".

So, of all the Sabbath-like bands out there, which ones are truly most worthy of the term?

For my money, MOS Generator has the sound, style, and complexity in their playing that places them closest to Black Sabbath. Tony Reed is doubly blessed as a vocalist with a true Ozzy sound and as an excellent guitarist. His soloing is all his own, but it's obvious he's listened closely to Tony Iommi to get his craft honed.

Who do *you* recommend as a band with some years ahead of them that can deliver on a quality Sabbath-like sound?

Orchid has been the closest I've heard to Sabbath. Probably a little too close for my liking.

That's a pretty good question actually...

There are quite a few bands that have copied sabbath quite well...but I am not sure if that's really always a good thing.

One band where I hear quite a bit of early Sabbath is(was) Mount Salem...

They have nailed that early 70s vibe...

There are a LOT of bands that can do that, but not necessarily sound like Sabbath in the 70s. It takes a little more than a Gibson SG in a minor key tuning, in my opinion.

Yeah there's the thing...It's one thing to sound like another band but it's a whole another to copy another band...

As I mentioned early in the thread they are a little too close for comfort. Pretty much all the bands in the doom genre have ripped Sabbath off though.
