Most PCs will have a 5 year usable life. I have an old Dell server that's over 10 years old still kicking along as a file server, but it's never going to play a game again.

My current PC is coming up on 3 years old and is in a good groove, holding up well.

I have 4 different computers that I use for various operations.  They are all pretty old.  The one I use primarily runs Windows 7, and is over 10 years old.

Yeah, my primary PC runs Windows 10 (tried to upgrade to 11 but it doesn't have suitable components) and I got it nine years ago, w/Win 7. It runs fine, but my work bought me a MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip.

Holy cow, that thing is ridiculously powerful.

Well I ordered the new components today...

I went with AMD CPU this time...haven't had one since the early 2000s so it's a nice change...Ryzen5 5600 to be exact... went with a moderate graphics card in GeForce GTX 1660 Super just in case I do want to play something atleast with mid range graphic setups...
16GB RAM and a 500GB m.2 SSD...

That setup should be good for few years again...and if not I can always upgrade something.

One of the problems I have is a 128GB SSD system drive. While I install everything to the 1TB D: drive programs still seem to have some sort of footprint on the C: drive. I'm down to about 35GB spare which isn't really enough.

Well that's nothing...I've got the same problem but at the moment I only have about 4gb of spare on it...it makes the system lag a bit at times...that's why I went with a larger 500GB ssd this time around..

I have about 50gb or so of band related pictures and stuff on there which takes a healthy chunk as it's located in the windows' Own Pictures folder...

16TB SSD should take care of those issues...

https://www.serversupply.com/SSD/SAS-12GBPS/15.36TB/SAMSUNG/MZ-ILT15TB_359065.htm?gclid=CjwKCAjwvsqZBhAlEiwAqAHElTrYKcCWtMnbSoqI-Bknsut9NiBQv-4ohIpWU0-eh4QjbUzNxruBPBoCPmoQAvD_BwE

At $3200, that looks like my solution will require another gambling windfall of some sort... hmmm...

Ugh....one of those days...

A big rock hit the windshield while driving today...cracked it pretty good so it needs to be changed...luckily had glass insurance but it's still 200€...

Twisted my back while mounting a tire and again while putting the new office chair (or gaming chair to be more accurate) together...

Also didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night...

So yeah...this day has officially SUCKED.

Well, your recent winnings can cover the windscreen, but probably won't help with the back strain.

Unless he went back and got that 16TB SSD...

Got a new phone today, am transferring data from old phone to new as I type.

The lease payment on the new phone is about 2/3rds the payment on the old phone, even though the new phone has double the RAM storage and is, well... *newer*... Happy to pay less, though. :smug:

Heh! Yeah they can....but I had already set some of it for savings...I also had just bought an air to air heat pump to help with the incresed costs of heating for the winter so that ate a healthy sum from the winnings too along with the new computer and few other things....it turns out 4 grand ain't so much after all! :D

But hey...if money would have been meant for saving you wouldn't need it for buying stuff!

Bit of a relief as I managed to put the new computer together without any problems...well part from one...the bookmark backup file was corrupted so I thought I lost my bookmarks as Mozilla only allows backup files to be copied...BUT then I just took my old components laid them out and hooked them up and started the old windows and copied them to a USB drive and then brought them here and BAM! Now I can access the forum again! :D

I have to say this new setup is pretty damn sweet. Fast as hell! This new M.2 ssd drive is crazy...Windows starts in under 10 seconds...closer to 5 I'd say. And been copying files and they've been crazy fast too! Love it!
