I appreciate it may not be this simple, but I'm not sure how moving back to the UK benefits the two? Unless there are other taxes I'm unfamiliar with then they are paying at most 12.3% in California, but they will be paying 45% tax in the UK! This assumes they are in the highest tax brackets

California has 10 personal income tax rates, ranging from 0% to 13.3% as of 2021. The highest rate of 13.3%, is the highest in the nation, and begins at incomes of $1 million or more for single filers as of 2021. This increases to incomes of $1,198,024 or more for spouses or registered domestic partners who file jointly. The 13.3% rate is referred to as the "millionaire's tax." It's an added 1% surcharge over the top 12.3% rate that applies to other taxpayers.

California is known for tacking additional excise taxes on certain products. California adds an additional tax to cigarettes and gasoline. A pack of cigarettes will cost you an extra $2.87 there as of July 2021. The tax used to be just 87 cents. Legislation ramped it up by an additional $2 on April 1, 2017.  Gasoline will run you an additional 51.1 cents a gallon under legislation that began increasing the tax incrementally effective Nov. 1, 2017.  That's the highest rate in the country. In 2021, the average California driver paid $4.65 per gallon compared to the national average of $3.32.

The state's property taxes aren't that bad.  The effective rate is 0.74% as of 2022.

So when you add all these taxes to your federal income tax, look out.   

OK, so there's a Federal tax (28%?) over and above the California Tax (13.3%). The fuel, cigarette and alcohol taxes are typical, I doubt they're higher than the UKs:

Gasoline (well Petrol!) = 58p per litre
Cigarettes = around £9.10 for a typical pack of 20 including £5.26 tax! (£3.10 per 10g cigar)
Alcohol varies by ABV but a typical pint would incur around 40-55p tax. Wine is about £3 per litre. Spirits are about £2.87 per 10% of ABV per litre (so 40% ABV vodka would be about £11.50 / litre tax)

... The Osbournes will pay 45% income tax on earnings over £150,000 (lower rates on amounts below that value), plus a local council tax based on the value of their property.

I was so sick yesterday and was throwing up a bunch of blood.
What made it all the more problematic was the nurse assigned to me was such a bitch.

Throwing up is always a rough thing, and with blood... oh man, I feel for you and hope this clears up soon!

On the lighter side, yours was the more *metal* version of throwing up...

They could not come up with a reason for what was happening. My bloodwork was excellent and all the other tests came up with good results.
I must say that throwing up blood is damn scary ordeal. I still feel somewhat nauseated but I have not thrown up in about 6 to 7 hours. It was so intense that they were giving me a drug for nausea for cancer patients to try and get it under control.

That damn nurse was so rude and condescending that even as sick as I was I almost left.

That's hard to bear, I know. It's better when there's a cause that can be dealt with. This leaves you wondering if it will happen again. I hate getting blank diagnoses like that.

Feeling a bit better today.

Well it happened again, I started throwing up blood. Spent the last two days at the hospital.

I am feeling a lot better compared to the last two to three days.

The doc put me through a battery of tests and I think they must have drawn a litter of blood from me.
Even after all the tests they still could not come up with any reason for what was happening to me.
So they gave me three different anti nausea meds at a time, and I was on a constant IV, because I was not able to keep down any water. Then like before it just all of a sudden stopped and I was able to go a lengthy time without throwing up.

The doc wants me to make an appointment with my family doc to get more tests.
