Chilis entered the Greenhouse today!




Cucumbers followed...

Tomatoes were lazy buggers and they wanted to stay inside for few more days.

Tomatoes do need more motivation to get out and play, it seems.

They found their motivation today!

GO TOMATOES! COME ON! HUSTLE! GET THAT FRUIT, YEAAAAAHH!!!!

We got our first two tomatoes yesterday, because the critters got their first one a few hours before.

Well first cucumbers are ripe and ready for tasting!

First bell peppers have ripened as well...

Sadly my tomatoes are suffering from herbicide residues from the chicken shit fertilizer I used... Should not have done that....that's the problem with most of these organic fertilizers these days as animals are being fed feed made from sugar beets which tends to have a lot of herbicides and tomatoes are very sensitive to that.

Should have used proper fertilizer like I normally do. Oh well, lesson learned and no more organic shit.

I think I'll still get some tomatoes but not a whole lot.

On the upside both Cucumbers and Chilis and Bell peppers are doing GREAT!

There's one gardener on YT - he's up in Canada - and he holds a doctorate in biology, as I recall, and he went into the chemistry of organic vs industrially-made fertilizers.

His upshot was that organic matter is already introduced into your garden if you're composting. For the nitrogen and phosphate, it doesn't matter what you're using, so long as you apply it properly to your plants. Ammonia is ammonia, your plants don't care if it was pooped out of a bat or brewed in a vat.

Your experience confirms to me that his view is still valid.

And another reason to use chemical fertilizers is that they tend to have much more stuff in them that your plants (especially greenhouse plants) desperately need...including Potassium, Magnesium and Manganese...

Well first chilis of the season have been dried and grounded up. And ofcourse I went bit too soon to check had the grinder done it's job and now I have chili dust in my nose and I can tell you it ain't fun!

So many things one should never do after handling chiles... soooooooooo many things!

Speaking of handling chilis...

My Bhut Jolokia's are getting ripe. They are a variety of the Ghost Peppers...up to over 1000000 scoville...

I'm gonna dry them but one needs to be pretty darn careful with those...so I'll be grinding them outside and won't be going near them until the dust has settled and need to wear gloves and a mask at all times...

Fun experiment that one though....but might get painful too.

Now I'm thinking of the dare food party from Clarkson's Farm.

Maybe, for maximum safety, you should wear a high-vis jacket and hard hat.

Actually, seriously, enclosing eye goggles and vulcanized rubber gloves would be good for handling that stuff.
