Born Again properly mixed from the master tape? Hell yeah! The same with the Martin catalog? Double hell yeah!

I don't even care if they don't come with extra-bonus stuff. Anytime I spin one of those records it feels like putting on an upscale, expensive shoe that has dog shit permanently stuck to it. Can't wait to have it scraped off!

Go get 'em Tony!

So Tony was on Eddie Trunk’s radio show on Sirius XM earlier today for a chat which was about an hour long. Unfortunately Sirius XM is only available in the US and Canada but thankfully Eddie does have a weekly podcast that has his best 1 or 2 interviews from the week so expect the interview to show up on his podcast in a week or two. In the meantime someone from a Sabbath FB group I’m part of gave a bit of a rundown on the interview.

These are the FB posters words not mine

Just got done listening to the interview with Tony Iommi on Eddie Trunk's show on SiriusXM. It lasted about an hour and was live. Here are some hilites that were discussed:

Obviously, the live evil super deluxe remix and remaster are out. Tony talked quite a bit about that. Tony said that there really wasn't anything else sent to him in the way of extras or new material in putting together the live evil box. He only mentioned that back in the day when they recorded it on the Mob Rules tour there were only a few dates, and he feels it wasn't really set up to be recorded properly. He said there was a lot of bleedthrough on the microphones, guitars bleeding through on the drum tracks, etc. so it was very difficult to separate even when they were originally mixing the album back in the day he tried to touch some things up, but couldn't because it was difficult with the bleed through. This contradicts an interview that Ronnie did in the 90s about referring to live evil not being a live album "Live in the Studio" suggesting things done in the studio, but not his vocals. So that's interesting. All in all, Tony and Geezer were not happy with the way the live evil album sounded so they were able to do a lot with it with modern technology/tools to improve the sound on the remix.

Eddie Trunk asked the billion-dollar question about what happened to the film footage from the Mob Rules. Unfortunately, Tony Iommi had little to offer in explaining any of the video film footage from the tour and said he couldn't remember what had happened with the film. It didn't sound like Tony really knew much about it at all. So the mystery continues.

As for other remixes remaster, super deluxe, etc. Tony is working on some stuff but he says it takes time. The next one in sequence would be Born Again which again he explained how he was not happy with the mix - but the tapes were found, and they are being transferred from reel to reel over to digital. It sounds like from here there's a lot to go through that Tony will want to fix but again these things take time and there's no deadline set for release.

Tony Martin stuff was discussed, not a lot from Iommi on this, but that will be coming at some point. He's really eager to get that stuff out for people to hear.

There was no discussion regarding any more Ozzy-era stuff coming out in super deluxe etc.

Tony talked about some of the other things recently and things in the works briefly talked about his fragrance and the ballet. He's also talking about the solo stuff coming up with the riffs, but not sure how the songs are going to develop if some are instrumentals, or if he'll use vocalists or one vocalist nothing more was discussed regarding when.

He still wants to play live, but can't do the heavy-duty long tours.

He's part of a documentary, but it doesn't sound like it's a Sabbath documentary, he explained it's more about riffs, so whatever that means. Kind of vague, so not sure what this is about.

I was expecting the Tony Martin set coming out this year...which it still might. The fact that Tony didn't want to talk about it much might indicate that there might be an official announcement made sooner than later....but ofcourse it might not. Remastering and remixing 4 albums (5 if you count Cross Purposes Live which I'm expecting to be in it ofcourse) will take it's time.

I thought it was only Forbidden that was getting remixed which Tony has already stated was in the can a while ago. Everything else will at most just be remastered. Maybe even on heavy duty double vinyl. He always seems a bit coy when discussing future releases and new projects his working on. Been hearing for about 3-4 years now that he’s been working on riffs and songs which he’s not sure will have a bunch of different singers or just one singer. He’s never one to be really definitive when discussing this stuff. It seems he’s not in an hurry and likes to leave us hanging.

Yeah...Forbidden gets the remix, others remaster...should have clarified that in my post.

And yes quite true that Tony isn't the most open person when it comes to talking about future releases and stuff like that.

I always enjoy hearing what Tony has to say, even if it is usually along the lines of, "aye, it is, at some point in time" :) Thanks for posting it, that was a surprisingly lengthy interview with the man.
