Roscoe Tanner and Victor Pecci today.

Typhon might very well be the one here most familiar with those names.

Oh yes.  :)
Pecci, a promising player from Paraguay, who once broke the top 10, but whose career fizzled out after that.
Tanner, the first guy to consistently crack 100 mph serves, before everyone switched over to these oversized racquets which, IMO, ruined the sport.

Yeah, with really big racquets, not as much need to hustle on the court, is there?

The thing is that the oversized racquets have more than doubled the size of the sweet spot.  This allows a person to make proper contact even if their hand-eye coordination is inferior.

I firmly believe that if today's generation of top players were to use a standard head racquet, they would be soundly beaten by the group of players I grew up watching.

That's something we're seeing in quite a few sports, how the equipment is making "better" play possible, when it's really making things much, much easier. Magic gloves in football and superbats in baseball come to mind. Even curling has equipment controversies...

It sure makes Babe Ruth seem all the more amazing to me! The balls they used were much softer, The bats were larger and heavier, The ball fields were larger as well. Ruth probably enjoyed alcohol like no ones business, not to mention food (Spring training must have been hell!). Most players back then probably made little more than trained monkeys.

You beat me to it! Was gonna post this next! :)

Yes indeed HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLENN!!!

This is one of my all time favourite songs from him and yes that includes the entire Priest catalogue.
I still keep pondering how awesome this song would sound with Tim behind the mic, had this been recorded for the Jugulator or Demolition albums!
