Lol, yeah... The LA Guns / Motley Crue stuff wannabe stuff was definitely past its sell-by date on the radio by then.

Now, Ozone Mama is well aware that this sound peaked 40 years ago, but they're keen to start the party over again. :smug:

I love this track, great album.

^^^ Awesome band! I love the singer's voice, it's little bit of Chris Cornell in there, but with a little more weight. Gonna check out there tunes on Bandcamp.

A few seconds in, it reminded me of these guys:

Not necessarily late for the party, but deliberately showing up a week late, hoping there's some beer left, and maybe a few stragglers hanging around.

No doubt there's some influence there. It also makes me think of Wolfmother with their Zeppelin meets Hendrix sound. 70's Rock revival have really been "in" for many years now.
Even the Grunge-guys, esp. Soundgarden also got alot of the 70's label put on them.

I disagree with Mike that Wolfmother sucks (though they're not great either), but knowing he's a guy who's always searching for new directions i understand that bands going for that retro sound isn't to his liking.

Interesting and great topic for a thread.  Here's the 1st thing I thought of that I believe qualifies: this (unfortunately) was the only album release by 3 Members of the original Alice Cooper Group when they reunited in 1977.  A vastly underrated effort which I consider far superior to the solo endeavours a couple of them - as well as Alice - had done/were doing.

^^^ Awesome Ted! Really showcases to me how the Alice Cooper "band", wanted to continue on with being a "rock" band, as opposed to Vince's Vaudeville vision for his career.
I can't help but think that if they had maybe named their band "Battle Axe", instead of Billion Dollar Babies, and had gotten a vocalist/frontman with a little stronger voice than Michael's, maybe it would have been more of a success. just my opinion, I do enjoy the album.

Have you ever heard this Ted?:

The Album Review thread got me started on this and I realized it was quite a few years on the early side for the artpunk NYC sound of the early 80s.

Listening to it now, enjoying it like an old friend.

I like how Television's Marquee Moon was hailed as a post-punk masterpiece a year before Punk Rock really hit the global music scene.

Listening to it now, my second try to get into it, but although I got further this time than before, it's still not my cup of tea. I'm going to move on once I got something else to move on to...

Yes, I consider the Battle Axe album to sound the most similar to the classic ACG albums released from 1971 - 1973 compared to everything else the Group Members have released since the band broke up.  Interesting theory re. if they'd gone with that band name instead and had hired a stronger-voiced singer/frontman.  I do know that 1st of all there was an issue whereby the BA album had to be recalled due to a mixing and/or mastering problem, then the stage show was quite expensive and only 4 shows were performed for the 'tour' in support of the album.  So the band certainly had it's share of problems which I think was what pretty much led to it's demise.

I have In My Own Way: The Complete Sessions, a 2 CD set which features the IMOW album + 4 or 5 bonus tracks on CD 1 and 17 more bonus tracks which fill CD 2.  I'm not sure if you're aware of the release (it was released by a now-defunct record label in the U.K.) but the material throughout shows just how different many songs that MB wrote were from the classic ACG material.

It's funny, I came across Television's "Marquee Moon" the same time as the Pink Fairies stuff not too long ago. I kind of like it, but it definitely wouldn't have been my bag in my younger days. I probably would have given an album like this to my buddy Mark back in the 90's as he was into weird stuff like "Jesus and Mary Chain" and "The Lords of the New Church", and would have been more up his alley.

Wow, I did not know all that, except for the aborted expensive tour. Cheers Ted!
