And should we have a rule that any nominees for this round must wait one round until they can be nominated again? If not we could really just start again with the same list and put in a new one for Sabotage...

I think there are enough albums out there to make it a rule that once an album has been on this it cannot be there again.

So Abbey Road, In The Court Of The Crimson King and Dark Side Of The Moon, three of rock historys greatest albums, will never be able to win this game, but with time we'll end up with a bunch of sub par albums instead?... Hmmm...  Doesn't sound right. IMO, ofcourse.

Masters of the Machine

1. Deep Purple - Machine Head - 6
2. Black Sabbath - Sabotage - 21
3. Metallica - Master of Puppets - 9

Puppets can still win this! :)

I think it would just get boring if we'd have same albums over and over and over and over again all the time...there are enough great albums out there to fill the game up. Also I doubt those albums rankings would change a whole lot in future games either.

Maybe after 5 or 6 rounds we would have forgotten which albums were on the first round so maybe you could sneak one in without anyone noticing! :D

I think a fair solution is that no album can appear more often every 4 games. That way the classics won't miss out but it does force us to be more imaginative with our selections.

Yeah, that would be easy now when we've talked so much about it... :))

Sounds fair enough. Ofcourse it wouldn't be any fun if the same albums keep coming up each round...

What if we took the top three? (Said the Deep Purple fanatic that didn't want to see his fave album go down in bloody flames...)

:evillaugh:

1. Deep Purple - Machine Head - 5
2. Black Sabbath - Sabotage - 20
3. Metallica - Master of Puppets - 9

I also think that if we have to reach for albums to put in the list as cannon fodder, we're only doing that because we don't want to split votes between our favorites and we hope to drain them to build up our faves. Whereas, when Vyn proposed stuff that I hadn't heard before and Sabbabath (miss her!) put some titles out there that were solid, but overlooked, I went and listened to those and got something out of it.

Sooooooooo... to keep this fun, we're all agreed we'd like to make a few changes and I'm down for that.

How about...

1. Battle of the Band: Rack up all the albums from one band and then help/hurt those. We'd come up with a consensus ranking of their general merits. Number one won't be the undisputed best, but numbers 1-3 would be. Number last wouldn't be the worst, but the first 3-4 to go out pretty much would be the bottom of that band's barrel.

2. Obscure Help/Hurt: put forward an album that maybe never got RIAA certified anything, or was only a big hit in the Faeroes, or that you stumbled across in your dad's collection and have loved the hell out of it for the rest of your days. The point here being that you'll nominate one obscure favorite, but you get to hear a bunch of other members' obscure favorites and maybe learn to like them yourself.

3. Half Help/Hurt: Nominate 10 albums, 10 points each. Action is fast and furious and we may wind up with a nuclear warfare type of situation where there are no survivors... I don't know totally about that one, because that could easily lead to teams/factions forming, and that's contrary to the spirit of this place. I wouldn't want it to be that I was pissed off because Team Sabbath always blew up Team Purple's pick and vice-versa.

4. Best of the worst: doing a best of the best leaves us with what we have now - Sabbath vs. Metallica vs. Deep Purple. That should be a tour, not a fight. But best of the worst? We always say that the worst of some bands is better than the best of a lot of other guys... but which of those worsts are the best? But that might be a thread, not a vote...

I think I like my ideas 1 and 2 the best. I'd like to consensus rank all the output of a band and I'd like a music tasting party.

I like the 4 game idea. If someone chooses an album too early, the group can call him on it and make another selection. I think DP and Metallica are fine but no BS.

I'll agree with no Sabbath is to be nominated except for Martin era because they'll never win anyway :P

Seriously though, if there is to be no Sabbath, then no Purple and Zeppelin then...
