Help / Hurt Game: The Battle of the Albums

The help/hurt game is popular on message boards, so we might as well kick one off here. Here's how it goes:

1. We nominate participants for the battle. In this case, it will be albums. Any genre, doesn't matter. Keep in mind that this is a group activity, so popular/monumental stuff is likely to win out over lesser-known/pretty good stuff. Even so, I recommend posting a link to the album so folks can click on it and give it a listen if they're so inclined, we might have some surprising winners.

So, post an album suggestion and maybe a link to the album. Just a regular link, not a YouTube video or anything.

NOTE: If you post a YouTube link and want it to be a regular link, be sure to put it in url BBC tags. If you post a straight link, it will resolve as an embedded video link. Don't worry if you post a link and can't get it to be a non-video link, I can edit the list to fix the links.

Try to post only one per competition, unless it's taking a while to get a full list of 20, but still give other folks a chance to put in their second choices.

2. Once we have 20 albums on the list, we give each one 20 points.

3. Players then take away two points from one album that has 1 or more points and add one to an album of their choice that has 1 or more points.

So, obviously, once an album hits zero points, it's out of consideration. No more adding or subtracting after that.

If an album is at 1 point, don't worry that taking away two makes it go negative. We can deal with it, as below:



4. Play continues until only one album has 1 or more points.

5. Once an album wins, it goes to a hall of fame and is retired from future considerations in the game. Members of The Community will be strongly encouraged to listen to that album, as it is most likely pretty damn awesome. 

6. If there's a math error, please be good sports, correct the error, and then move on. Should the error result in a killed off album coming back to life, so be it.

7. This is a game, people. Don't get mad if someone keeps taking points away from your favorite album. It's not bullying, it's just a matter of different tastes.

8. Seriously, try to be familiar with the albums being voted on. Give them a try. Feel free to encourage others why or why not a certain album deserves to be helped or hurt. Be serious or silly in your reasons, whatever suits you.

EDIT 9: We vote once per day once the game starts. If you miss a day, you can't make up for it. If you vote once and then vote again less than 24 hours later, but on a different day, that is fine. If you vote at 11:59 PM and then vote again at 12:01 AM, that's legal but, really, why would you arrange your life around an Internet game?

This sounds waaaaay too complicated for me...

Considering Sabotage is there (even though side 2 isn't really all that great) it is gonna win anyways so shouldn't we just give it the title and be done with it?

It's be like the H&H game we used to play, but with albums instead of bands. Given it's not 100% a Sabbath site, it's not given that Sabotage will win...

I added my day's album for the H&H, mostly so I'd have an excuse to listen to it again. And Abbey Road is going to be tough competition, as it's my favorite album from The Beatles.

I was thinking of trying to split the Sabbath vote by tossing in SBS in the mix, but I don't want to be that guy.

Okay, but here's the thing. If 20 is the max point then first round has to be just voting down...and also if everyone just has one vote to use is this ever gonna reach zero? Or if there is an unlimited number of votes what prevents one from just voting the same album over and over again until it goes zero? Also if an album comes back to 20 then what do we do? Must vote something else?

See why this is bit confusing to me?

No top limit, so one can reach 30 even 40, no restraints if you wanna "zero" out a band... Usually the "less than" albums go away quickly. Or is at a standstill for the most part when "points are needed". In the end it's be a handful of albums duking it out.
Impossible to have all these great albums winning the first round, so they're probably pop up again in later rounds.
