Give you an idea of just how brutal Aussie Rules football can be this happened late in the last qtr of the GF.

It’s a 360 degree game so charging back to take a catch(mark) with no fear of what’s coming the other way is just expected.

And the chaos in the first few minutes of the game when a Richmond player was knocked cold and Ablett did his shoulder at the same time.

I know you’s all couldn’t give two fucks about Australian football but it’s such a great, exciting, highly skilled, brutal sport and I know anyone thats a sports lover and actually took the time to learn the game and how it’s played could easily fall in love with it. I know a lot of people from UK and U.S that come to live here do end up falling in love with it.

I’ve always been pretty open to all sports. Had always loosely followed the Cowboys in the NFL since my Mum bought me a Cowboys T shirt when I was 6-7 and the fact their colours were navy blue & white like Geelong was a big factor as well but I never properly learnt the sport and fell in love with it until 98-99 when a housemate I lived with at the time was an American football tragic, so was forced to watch a lot of games and just fell in love with it and ended up winning $8,000 on the 99 Rams after backing them to win the Super Bowl half way through that season.

It’s such a captivating and addictive sport when you fully understand how it’s played and the fact the season usually kicks off around the time the AFL season is finishing works in beautifully for me.

The times I've watched, I've come away thrilled at the action and confused at the scoring. But I tell you what, Jack, next time around, give me a heads-up and I'll cheer for the Cats along with you! If you could steer me to some online commentators that do a good job of covering the sport, I'll be ready to talk stats and ins and outs by then.

Cool. The scoring is the easiest part. It’s the interpretation of the rules you might struggle with. It’s become more and more tactical over the years too with zones, defensive grids and trying to shift and get through opposition zones and grids. It’s not just a case of throwing the ball amongst 36 players on the ground and let’s see which team can out score the other.

Yep and unlike World Football(Soccer) we have a draft & salary cap also which provides a much fairer & even competition so the bigger & richer clubs don’t just dominate every year, although Geelong is a team that continually defies the system with great recruiting, player development, list management, coaching & culture. They’ve only missed the finals(playoffs) twice in the last 17 seasons.
