^ Yes, I agree on HoBL. In an interview, Gillan said that side 1 was Blackmore's side and side 2 was his side, in terms of how the writing went. Lots of tension on that album, you can really hear it in "Spanish Archer".

^^Thats interesting because his playing is so much better on side 2. Actually the whole bands brings it on side 2.

I listened to Slaves and Masters today. Another DP/JLT era Rainbow album I have a bit of time for. Albiet, it's mainly Ritchie's playing that lifts the album. Half the songs are good to great but a full listen is just AOR overload and becomes tiresome.

How was Love Conquers All not a huge radio hit?

Deep Purple didn't have enough hairspray or Spandex.

Thats probably 100% right, although by the end of 1990, hair bands were just about dead & buried or given their last rites.

True, I was thinking that was also right about when NKOTB and their ilk were making Boy Bands the Next Big Thing.

Maybe they needed to replace Joe Lynn Turner with Bell Biv Devoe?

Or Bryan Adams perhaps  ;)

Listened to these back to back today. The first one Live In Studio A is the Skunkworks lineup and comprises songs from his first two solo album Tattooed Millionaire & Balls To Picasso. Disc one is recorded live in the studio and Disc two is live at the Marquee club in England, both recorded in 94.

The second album Scream for me Brazil is a two disc set released in 1999, recordered Live in Brazil in with the Accident of Birth/The Chemical Wedding lineup and is mostly made up songs from both those albums.

Both are very good live albums, albeit The live in the studio one seems a bit pointless.

Selections frome the first six Queen albums plus two handful of their later material, to prepare for the Bohemian Rhapsody film.

Now it's Joni Mitchell's turn. Played Ladies of the Canyon and now Hejira.

Wow, this is an incredible album. It would have been totally lost on me as a teenager, but I think I would have been enchanted by it as a kid, just as much as it weaves a spell on these old bones right now.

Onslaught - VI(2013)

Gave this a listen for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Was a fan of this English thrash band back in the 80's but haven't really followed them since the In Search Of Sanity album(1988). VI features Sy Keeler on vocals who sung on the classic The Force album as well as long time guitarist Nige Rockett.

Very tight sounding thrash album with some great hooks and thrash grooves and killer production. One of the better albums from the thrash revival of recent years.
