How to post articles (online articles, scans of old newspaper articles etc.)???

This is partly, but not exclusively a technical topic. Dear mods, feel free to move it elsewhere if you feel it should be placed in a different section.

The problem is this: I am not sure what's the best way to post online articles from other websites, newspaper or magazine articles and such, both technically as well as regarding possible copyright issues.

As an example for online stuff from other websites, see the recent Iommi interview I just posted here:

I copied and pasted the text, added the original pictures and a link to the original website. Is this the right way technically? And how about copyright?

Or how about scans of old, e.g. 1970ies or 1980ies, newspaper or magazine articles - should I just post such scans as pictures? Or could that raise copyright issues? If so, is there an unproblematic way to post such articles? Does it make a difference if they are online elsewhere or if I just have them on my hard drive?

Well that is bit tricky.

What I would suggest is not to copy the article but just post a link instead. Then there would be no copyright issues.

As fas as old news paper scans and such, there really shouldn't be any problem with those, especially if they are from the 70s or 80s.

I would advocate always posting stuff on an outside picture host and then linking them here. First of all the attachment max size is quite small and second of all we don't want to fill the server with those attachments. It will eventually slow the site down.

Post a link is best. BBC is the most aggressive about copyright in my experience so far, but other, smaller sites I know appreciate it when people stop by to visit. If you have permission to post the article in full, post the article in full. When I ran Deep Purple Digest, I had a member that did interviews with guys like Dio, Hughes, Neil Murray and always sent me a full copy to use in the DPD. Great guy. But for other stuff, we'd post links to the material.
