Free - Fire and Water. First UK pressing on the pink Island label. I've been on the lookout for one for many years, but they have always either been way too expensive or in poor condition. This one is damn near perfect and the flea market booth it was in only wanted ten dollars for it. SOLD!

It is such a high quality pressing. Most records have low-end subsonics that can't be heard, but on the parts where no music is cut (between songs, the lead in, the lead out), you can see the speaker cone move as the speaker "plays" the inaudible sounds being reproduced by the driver. This pressing has just a tiny amount of such "noise". And the details of the recording really come out - I can hear the string decay on the piano in the chorus of "Oh I Wept" and on any given song I can hear the "air" between bass notes when they aren't being drowned out by Kossoff's guitar blasting away.

And on certain passages I can - almost - hear his vibrato causing the guitar string to rub against the fretboard.

It really does stand out as one of the best made pop music records; typically that level of quality was reserved for orchestral recordings or older Deutsche Grammophon label products. Outstanding.

And the album itself is just amazing in terms of selection. The title track alone is worth the price of admission.

For sure. Their previous two albums are both very good - the first one sounds so much like Cream that to the uninitiated it could be mistaken for them. But Free came all the way into their own with Fire and Water. Every tune is solid, they all fit together, they have their own sound, and if anyone thinks "Alright Now" sounds great, hearing it as part of that album makes it that much better because it isn't even the best song on the disk.

Preordered the Tony Iommi album. Double White Marble vinyl with poster and CD mediabook with poster.

Also in the same order I put the new John Carpenter album, a second hand Nightwish live album from 2009 and Saxon's Into The Labyrinth.

Yeah...I was channelling my inner Thel today.
