Weather Topic 2: THE REVENGE!!!

Overcast today - since I don't shoot fireworks off I don't mind, and hope it rains all night. BUt I think my hopes are going to be outweighed by the multitude of kids and drunk adults who hope it doesn't

How about when you were younger?  I don't do much of that stuff these days, but I have to admit that in my life I have shot off so many fireworks that I could practically be an explosives expert.

When I was younger - oh yeah. Fireworks-o-rama. We used to shoot bottle rockets at each other, which turned into roman candles at one point, then one kid got hit in the back and it stuck. Burned the shit out of his back and to this day he has this amazing looking white scar that looks like a star right in the middle of his back with lines radiating out to the edges of his back. Like someone intentionally drew it, like art. And of course we were always trying to make the loudest explosion as possible. Every few years my dad would bring home some cherry bombs - the real quarter-stick of dynamite kind. They'd blow a crater in the yard the size of a manhole cover and about six inches deep.

The last time I bought any fireworks was probably 2002, and by then it wasn't much of a purchase. I've lived where I currently reside since 2006, and have never fired any off here.

My dad had a good buddy with a prosthetic hand because of a fireworks accident.

We were not allowed to have them, ever.

Having seen other mangled hands and faces over the years, I've never wanted to get into them. They're purely a spectator event for me.

Over here a somewhat historical occurance...

4th straight day of thunder storms! I've been keeping weather journals for 15 years now and not ONCE has that happened before...

I have recollections from the 90s that occuring and once in the late 90s there were 7 days of thunder but that's nothing but a hazy memory now...

Again today couple of rumbles only but they are within a 5 mile radius...

Mix of heat and Gulf moisture means we have a pretty consistent humidity with a 20% chance of afternoon showers most days. Not that it'll rain every day. We just have a shot at it where most of us in Dallas will stay dry but some neighborhood that catches a popcorn shower will get like an inch of rain in an hour and then it's over.

In the middle of the 3rd heatwave of the year, temps hitting mid-30s again.

Not us!

We've actually been having a colder than usual summer so far...especially night temperatures have been unseasonably cold with around 9C (48F) which is september night temps usually.

There's only been two nights so far with temps over 15C (60F) (which is the norm this time of year) so this has been a very unsually cold summer...so far.

Warm day today. 26C (80F) and no wind so it's pretty warm...I was gonna do some more painting but decided not to as I had a late night and got to be only around 7am so I'm bit tired...maybe tomorrow as the weather seems to be co-operating tomorrow as well!

7am, holy cow!     I don't think I have been to bed that late since my poker playing days.

Well I've had quite a bit of extra work during the past week so I've been having late nights...Usually I'm at bed by 4-5am but now it's been couple of nights that have been past 6am up to 7am...

I still try to get my 7-8 hours but it tends to be lighter sleep quite often when the night go long.

There were parts of the Texas Hill Country that got over 12" (30cm) of rain last night. There's a lot of limestone underneath a shallow soil, so floods happen quickly and become severe rapidly out there.

I'm up in Dallas, where there's a thirstier soil layer and we haven't had as much rain, so I'm doing all right where I'm at.

12" of rain! YIKES! A small town about 30 miles from where I live got about 5 " of rain in just under 3 hours on sunday and based on the pictures it was flood central over there...with highways being washed away and everything...

I think the highest rainfall here where I live in one rain shower was about 4 inches and that was a lot!


Another nice 26 c (80F) day today...and I'm doing that painting today...not as much as I'd hoped to do but still...should have the window boards done by tomorrow.
