REO song: I was a kid when that was on the radio, had a junior high heartbreak to that tune.

Mötorhead song: Total banger!

Mel C song: was waiting for this after the Dark Element song. Has a great chill feel, like Delerium remixing Sarah MacLaughlin. Love the hard-edged bridge, that is some tight playing and singing. Very much like the band Hanford Flyover, whose work I'm more familiar with, and that's a good comparison in my view.

That Mel C reminded me of another great tune, albeit from an earlier time... it's Gladys Knight's version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", which is much faster than the Marvin Gaye take.

I didn't know they held concerts at the Space Station....

Not sure if this was intented as a break up song but it doesn't need much to interpret it that way....some kind of bad relationship has been there for sure.

Deep Purple - Smooth Dancer

Gillan was done with Blackmore at this point, band was coming apart, so he wrote this lyric on top of the track laid down by the rest of the band. And it's about the guy playing guitar, pretty much right to his face.

Don't think they ever did this one live...

A fantastic song. Musically very very solid and lyrically to the point. One of my favourites from one of my favourite Megadeth albums!

Poison Boys - "Day By Day"

Lyrics are hard to follow until they get to the "I QUIT!" chant at the end, then it becomes a little more clear that this is an unacceptable employment arrangement being discussed in the course of the song.

A song about leaving, maybe it's a regret, but he's got his life to live.

True, the story arc of Mr. Loaf's song is quite clear on that matter.

And then... RUSH!

Got two for today, one about making one more try and then quitting in style, "Bedside Manner" from the latest Black Crowes album:

The next started with Bobby Womack's family group The Valentinos, got picked up by the Rolling Stones, and then Mr. Womack borrowed it back. "It's All Over Now".

The first Womack version is really country, so I like the Stones' version and then the latter Womack version:

First one is live footage with studio overlay, second is live from The Midnight Special.

For fun, I'll kick in the studio version Womack did in the 70s with Bill Withers, I think it's my favorite of all the versions of the song I've heard.
