Conrad Lant "Cronos" frontman of Venom has died at the age of 63.

Never a huge fan of Venom myself, but they were there at the beginning of Black metal in the early 80s. And 63 is too young, no cause of death has been announced yet.

I like some Venom tracks and I have their best of collection which I will crank out soon in honor of Cronos.

He was waaay too young to go and it must have been sudden since I haven't heard anything about him being sick or anything...they've been touring a lot and just released an album I believe.

They have a few songs I like, I bought their two-disk release, "From Hell to the Unknown...," back in the day and will spin it now and again, but a lot of their output just got to be too much for me. I give them a nod for taking the theme they were into and pushing it as far as they could, birthing the black metal genre basically. Cronos was a very large part of that.

They also never went into the cookie monster vocals which was nice unlike most other Black Metal bands.

I just found out that a once close friend has passed away 10 YEARS AGO!
I had lost contact with him and today I googled out of curiosity and I came across his obituary
My dear friend passed away from a drug overdose
The strange thing is that when I knew him he was very straight and the last thing I would have expected was for him to die that way
Needless to say I'm a bit of a mess today

Sorry to hear that Thel, we all feel like a mess when friends and family pass away.

Similarly, there was a member of out SF group in the 80s and early 90s, joined in with the D&D, went to SF Conventions and to our meetings and parties. Then he got married, found religion and we didn't see him again. We found out a couple of years back that he'd had a Heart attack and died around 2005, he would have been no more than 50. Perhaps not as close to us as your friend was but hearing about these things way after the event is weird and we had wondered what he might be up to on occasions not realising he was no longer here.

Even if we lose touch the old friendship stays surprisingly strong I'd imagine so the loss still cuts deep.
