England easy.

India are in trouble at 0-2 given only top 2 teams from each group go through which is ridiculous. That will change come the next WC if India don’t go through.

While not a disaster, England only scored 163 in their 20 overs, I was hoping they might have cleared 200. I think Butlers 101 is the first ton of the tournament. It is a total they can defend but Sri Lanka could get there. We shall see.

England won, but it wasn't so easy: at 129 for 5 Sri Lanka were looking dangerous, but the tail-end collapsed and were all out for 137. England have all but mathematically progressed to the next stage.

Two games today:

10:00 South Africa vs Bangladesh

14:00 Pakistan vs Namibia

Baring surprises there should be easy wins for SA and Pakistan.

SA won quite easily, limiting Bangladesg to just 84 all out, and then SA knocked off the runs with little fuss.

Pakistan won in a straight forward manner, they set a good total of 189, and although Namibia were solid, they were never on the pace required and fell 45 runs short. Pakistan are confirmed qualifiers for the next stage with 4 wins from 4 games.

Today's games are:

currently New Zealand vs Scotland

14:00 India vs Afghanistan

New Zealand are in the process of posting the sort of score that Scotland can't hope to get anywhere near. So I expect an easy win for NZ.

India must win their game, if not then they will not progress to the next stage, they've been abysmal so far. Afghanistan have shown that they are a decent team and won't be pushed aside, a win for them and they'll be in a good shape to get that 2nd qualification spot, but will the real India show up!!

Seems Australia will have to win their last 2 games and hope SA loses to England because of net run rate even though they’ll finish on the same amount of wins if SA beat England. Doesn't seem right given Australia beat SA. A Tie breaker seems a fairer outcome in that situation.

Also I mentioned it before but the fact only 2 teams from each group progress through seems am anomaly as well. Not to mention how stacked one group is in quality of teams compared to the other group.

Yeah, I don't know what the method of allocating teams to the groups were.

I do wonder if there is scope to change to a 4 groups of 4 with the top 2 in each going through to a quarter final. With the current 2 groups of 6 with only 2 going through to a semi-final I think they've missed out on an opportunity to make things fairer and even a bit more exciting.

Ok, so Scotland got a lot closer to NZ than I expected, but NZ won by 16 runs.

India is the first team in the tournament to score a double ton. Could be too little too late for them though. Gonna come down to that NZ vs Afghanistan game where they’ll have to rely on Afghanistan upsetting NZ.

I really thought that 200+ would happen more often than this. Perhaps the Aussies can get inspiration today to tonk a 200 against Bangladesh... a must win for the Aussies regardless:

10:00 Australia vs Bangladesh

14:00 West Indies vs Sri Lanka

It should be a comfortable win for Australia. As for WI vs SL I think it will be close and could go either way.

So the Bangers got knocked over for 73. If Australia can reach the target within 7 overs it should go a long way to boosting their net run rate.

I'm quite good at maths but I have no idea how they calculate that Run Rate!

It’s calculated as (runs scored/overs faced) - (runs conceded/overs bowled)

Australia made light work of that total punching it out in 6.2 overs.

Been out today, so just an update to say that New Zealand and India had easy wins over Namibia and Scotland respectively.

The wins for NZ and India now make it unlikely that Afghanistan will qualify as they will need to beat NZ and hope that India lose to Namibia. If New Zealand beat Afghanistan then India (pre-tournament favourites) are out regardless of other results.
