Still handmade in Lollar, Hesse, Germany, the top gat is a Korth Mongoose, .357 Magnum, 5.25" barrel, one-piece walnut grips.

Made in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA, by Rob Schauland -  an Alchemy Custom Weaponry Prime, government-size .45 ACP with thuya wood grips and a bomar-style rear sight.

On the bottom, made by Master Gunsmith Brennon High out of Berryville, Arkansas, USA, a Nighthawk Custom Talon, commander-size, chambered for 10mm Automatic ammunition, double-diamond walnut grips and sporting a bob-tail handle cut.

Definitely well-made firearms, those.

Do you also have historical pieces in your collection?

Do you also have historical pieces in your collection?

Only one - an 1891 Argentine Mauser that had been "sporterized" at some point in the distant past.My dad bought it from some guy in 1967 for deer hunting, then when I was old enough I used it for the same. It hasn't been fired in 40 years. As I recall, that thing is one accurate rifle. We would zero it in prep for hunting season at 300 yards with the iron sights. I mention that because anymore when I hear folks talking about hunting rifles, the mantra seems to be if it is more than a hundred yards they "have to have a scope".

More to the point of your question, I don't really collect firearms. I have about ten that I acquired a few years ago via my dad; the rest I accumulate more so than collect. Every once in a while, my side biz presents the opportunity to pick a gun for free or dirt cheap, simply as a thanks for selling a given manufacturer's stuff. That's where those three came from, the Nighthawk showed up a week ago.

So, when the opportunity presents itself, I try to get something I think is cool :)

Thanks, I really like it. The coloring and grain on thuya wood is amazing, and it is interesting in and of itself. Those grips (as is most of that kind of wood these days) comes from the Atlas mountains. It was probably taken from the stump of a tree that had been cut down hundreds of years ago - or more. Most of the forests have been destroyed over time, so they go out dig around in the sand looking for old stumps, etc. So, most of what you find for sale made out of it are small items like bowls or gun grips :) Artisans will make the items and sell to a procurer for next to nothing, who then sells it to another biz, and so on until it ends up in a retail shop for ridiculous amounts of money.

It has been in demand since ancient times, supposedly the Queen of Sheba had a desk made out of it. It's one of the wood types mentioned in the bible, by a different name though. It goes by different monikers over time and depending on who is talking about it.
