I don't know if this has been posted here before, but:  What was your first "proper" gig?

They used to have a few amateur bands in the student union at college, but the first proper gig I ever attended (with a couple of friends) was:

Status Quo in 1984. It was supposed to be their farewell tour (just for the record they still tour now even though there's only 1 original member left), it was at the Milton Keynes Bowl and was an all day event which included a fireworks display at the end.

The line up was Jason and the Scorchers, Gary Glitter (before his downfall!), Marillion, Nazareth and finally Status Quo.

To be honest I went to see Marillion, but the Quo were damn good too... this was before they went a bit "music hall".

KISS at their reunion show in Toronto in 1996. I had third-row tickets and it was a blast, seeing Ace and Peter back with Paul and Gene.

My first concert was Tuska Festival in 2004...

I can't remember the first band I saw on that festival anymore...wasn't anything I was interested in but the buddies I went with were fans...I think it was a Finnish death metal band of some kind but I could be wrong...
But the headliner for the second day was Nightwish and for the third day ofcourse was the reason I went and the headliner was DIO...

That was a fantastic show and I still remember yelling Craig during his solo and he pointed out to me! That was a great moment!

I don't know, my parents dragged me to a lot of shows when I was a kid, but don't remember most of them. So I don't really count those. The first one I bought tickets to and went with some friends was Black Sabbath on their Technical Ecstasy tour. It was in Kansas City (Memorial Hall specifically) and the opening act was Target.

Target was ok, but I had never heard of them before and didn't pay much attention to them.

Did those guys later start a chain of department stores? If not, then I've never heard of them, either. :smug:

Ha, I couldn't even tell you what kind of music they played - it was unmemorable. Heck, it might not have even been them for all I remember, that's just what the ticket stub says.

Searched for "Target band Kansas City" and got this... they're actually from Memphis.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_(American_band)

Kinda liking this song... bad transfer from vinyl to YT, but it's still pretty decent, in a generic mid-70s kinda way.

EDIT: Wiki article notes that Target did indeed open for Black Sabbath so there ya go, I think these are the guys. Singer later went on to join Survivor to replace their original vocalist, who was down with vocal cord injury.

Kiss November 15 1980 at VFL Park. Was 9 years old. Stadium show. My dad took the whole family.

Here’s some footage of the day
