Top 10 Sabbath Albums
« on: December 26, 2020, 07:04:24 PM »
Well known Rock & Metal Author/Historian and Sabbath fanatic Martin Popoff along with other Sabbath fanatic Pete Pardo from Sea of Tranquility rate and discuss their all time top 10 Black Sabbath albums. Good discussion and some interesting picks.

Cool down, buddy.  You're overreacting.  Nobody here is telling you not to speak, and if anybody does tell you that, you let me know.

...the ones that are Ozzy only people tend to like 'em...that's the case here atleast....

I hope you're not putting me in this category.  I have already stated that Heaven And Hell is one of my Top 5 favorite Sabbath songs.

Okay I'm cleaning this up a bit...things got heated.

Jack (as usual) wanted to misunderstand my little jab at Popoff and I went off the handle a bit...sorry about that. Also I know I should NEVER talk about my personal life and issues here...that was addressed too.

Well you do tend to be more towards the Ozzy only camp than appreciating the FULL Sabbath catalogue am I right? After all you are practically denying over a decade of Sabbath material... ;)

Majority of Sabbath fans do not think those two albums are among the band's finest....and for a reason I would say. Heck the band themselves hate those albums too! :D

But it is more than okay to like those albums too...but it is equally okay to NOT like those albums...although it is clear that my opinion = shit to some around here. Which is okay too.

No, nothing got heated, at least not on my end. But I thought I’d call you out on that anyone that has TE or NSD in their top 10 had no credibility with you.

Don’t care what you think of Popoff, but as I said, quite a few of us on here definitely would have them in their top 10 and your comment insinuated we have no credibility with you.

I didn't see the exchange that occurred. Don't need to, I get the gist. I only mention this because it made me smile at the return to form, of sorts. It is indeed a family of folks here. And when things like this happen, one might even go as far to say it's a...

No one here hates you.

I don't know why you and Jack pick fights with each other over matters which mean nothing in the wider scheme of things, but we have few enough members here as it is without you two driving each other away.

If you are referring to the years Iommi spent soloing with whatever Tom, Dick or Harry he played with, then yeah, that stuff will always be Fake Sabbath with me.  Heck, Iommi himself calls some of it solo.  But I think you and I can agree to disagree on that.  ;)

Didn't see any of the exchange and, like Vyn says, I don't need to.

And hell, Charger, if I don't hate Typhon, I sure as hell don't hate *you*! :smug:

Seriously, you're a good guy and if we don't all always agree with you, that's life in the big city. We get on with it and move to the next thread. We all liked Billy, even if we disagreed with him about politics and/or Dio and/or ambient black metal. At the end of the day, he, like you, was someone we deliberately *wanted* to be with. And that still stands.

Well Jack has strongly disliked me since the days of the old place...and everytime I go and try to bury the hatchet he soon goes and digs it up...don't know...it is what it is. I shouldn't let it get to me anymore but occationally it just does.

I finally got a chance to watch Jack's video last night.  2 comments:

(1) I am not familiar with any of the 3 guys, but it seemed that at least 2 of them are guitar players, and every time I hear a musician's opinion of someone else's music, they always factor in something about how difficult or easy it is to play the piece.  This is something I care little about.  It only maters to me how pleasurable the song is to my ears.

(2) The other thing that is pretty consistent is when a fan did not hear the Sabbath catalog in the order with which it was created, they then tend to prefer albums released later on rather than original lineup material.

1.
Popoff is a writer, he's written a lot of music books...he considers himself as some sort of a music know-it-all...don't really know about that...I think he just likes to toot his own horn. I'm sure he's done some reasearch as well but he's books have also been known to have some errors and his own opinions stated as fact in them from what I've heard.

Pete Pardo is a music reporter of sorts. He seems bit more reasonable and down to earth kind of guy..I've listened to him interview some people for his Sea Of Tranquility website.

2.
That's a very interesting take...and I think you are quite right. I certainly is the case with me and with most people I know. Quite often the love affair to music starts with what ever you hear first. That's why I'm thinking the Dio-era is so close to my heart because that's where I started from.

I don’t dislike you, although it’s hard not to when you post shit like this...

I just don’t like the negative repetition and snide remarks you go with and then you play the victim and poor little old me card when someone pulls you up on it  :boohoo:
