Bill admits that he doesn't have the chops to play live with Sabbath anymore.
« on: March 12, 2021, 11:09:54 PM »
Bill Ward says that he no longer has the "chops" and the "ability" to perform with BLACK SABBATH.

The 72-year-old founding SABBATH drummer made the admission during an appearance earlier today on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk".

Asked if he is personally okay with SABBATH being "done" as a touring and recording entity, Bill — who didn't appear on the band's last studio album and accompanying tour — said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Well, I'm not done with BLACK SABBATH legacy. [Laughs] I haven't been done. I was made done, but I'm not done. So, the others might be done, but I'm not. But being realistic about that, as far as touring with BLACK SABBATH, I don't have the chops, and I don't have the ability to drive a band like that on stage. I have to be back to 60 years old to be able to do that."

Ward continued: "I would love to do a studio album with SABBATH, with all the original members. I'm just saying that — I'm just floating that out there. I haven't talked to anybody about that or anything else. But I'm not done. So, the other three might be done, and I respect that, but no, I'm not done. I think as long as we all exist [laughs] and we're still breathing in air, I think we have every possibility of making some great music together."

Bill went on to reiterate his desire to make a new studio album with BLACK SABBATH but confirmed that he no longer wishes to play live with the legendary heavy metal act.

"I'm being honest," he said. "I'll be 73 next birthday [in May], and I know what kind of energy it takes to drive that band."

Can't disparage Bill for anything that he's done, but maybe admitting this will lead him to some kind of closure on the issue. With that said, a new album with all four could be great. Even if they don't even play live again.

Well I'm glad he finally admits it...though he just should have done that 10 years ago.

A real shame. it's exactly the unsignable contract they had offered him and which he refused in favor of a denial of the reality. That too much time wasted. He missed his chance.
At 73 with his health condition , it's over.
He gives the impression of being a old customer determined to enter a store that has been closed for several months and continues to knock on the door with his basket...

Better late than never. Maybe there is scope to move on to a new project but I doubt anything will come of it.

Bill didn’t have to admit to anything 10 years ago. Just like Tony Martin doesn’t have to admit his voice is done either. They owe nobody anything.

Thinking of his - and everyone else's - advancing age, what I'd really love to see would be a Black Sabbath oral history offering. Run a camera in front of the band, alone or together, as they talk through the how and the why of the choices they made in the studio. Include some anecdotes, and we have a real "deluxe edition (X) anniversary" package to consider.

I'd be in with that! Would be so great to hear them talk about the writing and recording processes and what not...those are things that have been rarely (if at all) talked about.

Even just talking about how they set up their gear over the years can be fascinating.

Didn't want to make a new thread for it, but during the same appearance Bill mentioned that he's writing an autobiography and a couple more books.

It'll be interesting to hear his side of a number of stories.

Certainly will. There are a lot of details of Bill's post-BS life that would be very curious to hear about. He seems like someone that isn't afraid to go deep, but of course it's up to him what kinds of personal details to put in there.
