Saw a co-opener / co-headliner tour once with Cheap Trick and Ted Nugent as the openers and then Deep Purple followed by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

It would have totally worked just fine if it was Cheap Trick opening for DP and then Ted Nugent opening for Skynyrd on a completely separate stage. No idea why the promoters were trying to mix oil and water...
