I just know that us being unique is a limited view of this infinite universe

It is a difficult bias to get over.

No doubt - the clerk seemed like he felt he was ripping me off with the $5 charge. I just went ahead and let him think that.

I just know that we are not alone in this universe
What that other life looks like is a very interesting intellectual question 🤔
Is it like us or is it something that is completely different from what we understand as life
Are there any other civilizations and do they travel in space perhaps in ships that can travel faster than light
Or are we alone 😔
I just know that us being unique is a limited view of this infinite universe

All Them Other Guys / Re: Albums - What's Coming in 2025?

Glad to see The Marlboro Men got a record out this year, I like their brand of instrumental stoner metal. This one's strong, for sure.

The Marlboro Men - The Riddle of Steel

Hard-driving instrumentals, great fun for driving around. It's a good and satisfying album, which has been hard for me to find in 2025 releases.

From the early 80s to the mid 70s:

The Boys - Box Number (Nine Three Nine)

Gonna disconnect me from the hard world
Lock myself away with a bad girl
Reach me care of box number nine three nine

When Lemmy says he's got more in common with punk than metal, it's songs like this one that back his case.

All Other Eras / Re: Black Sabbath with DAVE WALKER

It was kind of in the back of my mind, knowing that Walker had sung with that band for a while. Then when I heard it get kinda Peter Green-y there, I couldn't un-hear the Mac.

We'll know for sure it's intelligent life if they don't have local blackout rules for sporting event broadcasts.

So a thought on the local observer... we choose to interact with orangutans because they are similar to us. What if the observant alien is more attuned to, say, a termite mound? The chemical language of termites is fascinating stuff, and what if that was of great interest to the observers in some sort of observer-centric view of the universe?

^^^^^^
The list of circumstances you sight does indeed make it very difficult for intelligent life to come about.  There would need to be an incredible number of planets, each one having the opportunity for all those things to occur.  But we do have an awful lot, for it is estimated by astrophysicists that there is a sextillion planets in the entire universe.

This is what a sextillion looks like -->   1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

I'd still say that intelligent life exists elsewhere.

Back in the 1980s, I got a 10 foot satellite dish when they first came out.  For years I could watch any channel out there for free.  Then they started to scramble many of the satellite feeds.

I've always had antennas for broadcast television, still do.  Have never paid for cable TV or any television service of any kind in my life, and never will.
