That's awesome Z! He was great on Would I Lie To You? too, and his own work of course.

Agreed. And consider the history involved for Jim Simpson himself. He paid for the sessions and possibly wants to see them available and preserved while he has the chance to do so.

Thanks everyone!

Charger, I think I'll have to wear these more often.

So,

I saw Heaven and Hell in 2007. Supported by Down. I was more excited for Sabbath, but being a high school kid I didn't have a huge amount of money. I bought a Down shirt and then kicked myself later for not buying any H&H merch instead.
The Down shirt now sits in my wardrobe. Signed by Phil, Pepper, and Kirk (but it went through the wash when I still lived at my well meaning parents' place).

I don't remember what H&H merch there was other than the three album cover shirts that either omitted the Sabbath name/logo (Heaven and Hell) or replaced it with a H&H one (Mob Rules and Live Evil), but those were the three I was taken with.

A few years after, the Dio store was selling tour leftovers. Passed on them in case they weren't from the Australian dates and/or a lack of disposable income (can't recall).

I'd occasionally see one on eBay that looked like leftover tour stock but it wasn't one of the shirts I was keen on. I periodically kept looking.

Fast forward to 2021. Lockdown during covid. I check eBay. There's a seller selling the Mob Rules and Live Evil ones. No bids at a cheap price. Score! A few months later the same seller sells the Heaven and Hell one but a bidding war erupts.

I'm happy enough with two of three, right? I leave it alone but keep checking periodically.

Fast forward again to a couple of weeks ago. The H&H one is on eBay. Buy it now. I snag it in case it goes and I never see one again.

It arrived last week. All three look like new and I've barely worn them as it is, but for three 18 year old shirts that's amazing.

I'll have to get some pics up.

Funny thing is, since I grabbed the H&H cover one, there have been two more of that and one of the Mob Rules one on eBay Australia. Not in my size though.

Agreed Zzz and Vyn!

And even if/when legal communications arise, the material will stay out there. So it at least won't be lost.

Makes me think that Jim may not have any rights to The Rebel or When I Came Down as those are Sabbath recordings, not Earth.

Good point Zzz! But it's made it out digitally so that is something.

The current lineup of Pentagram re-recorded I Spoke To Death, given Tony and Scooter play with Pentagram now.

You're welcome Charger!

With the exception of 'Blue Suede Shoes' (though this one has a spoken intro and outro not on the Beat Club recordings) and Wicked World (though it's an unedited version) these are 'new' recordings.

Really cool to hear. Hopefully without any legal hurdles later on.

Physical to follow. CD next week and vinyl apparently pushed back to November.

https://www.qobuz.com/au-en/album/the-legendary-lost-tapes-earth/gk050lp0kh3sa

1. Blue Suede Shoes (Carl Perkins cover)
2. Evenin' (Jimmy Rushing cover)
3. Wee Wee Baby [Early One Monday Morning (Wee Baby Blues)] (Joe Turner cover)
4. Untitled
5. Free Man
6. Song for Jim (guitar version)
7. Song for Jim (flute version)
8. Wicked [Wicked World] (Demo)
9. Warning (The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation cover)

Some interesting notes:
'Free Man' has elements of 'Over and Over' and 'I'.
'Wicked (Demo)' is essentially a mono version of the single/album take of 'Wicked World' with the third verse that was performed live.

Enough spoilers from me.

Jim Simpson owns the copyright for these recordings so the release is official even if not band approved.

Enjoy.

Here's NIB

It seems that they ran Ozzy's vocals through autotune or something for the stream (which was running on quite a delay) but honestly I don't see much reason for it. Ozzy's sounding all things considered quite good here. I don't think anyone expected him to sound perfect with all that he's been through and is going through so to doctor his voice like that is just stupid. But ofcourse when $haron's involved you can guarantee some form or stupidity going on.
If they autotune him now, less work for the inevitable streaming/physical release.

He sounded good on the audience videos.

Sabbath did NIB, not the eponymous song.

A lot of the stream was very cool.

The Dio Years / Live Evil getting a super deluxe edition (remaster and remix)
« on: April 10, 2023, 03:23:57 AM »
https://blabbermouth.net/news/black-sabbaths-live-evil-to-be-re-released-as-40th-anniversary-super-deluxe-edition
BMG has set a June 2, 2023 release date for the 40th-anniversary super deluxe edition of BLACK SABBATH's "Live Evil".

This new edition of "Live Evil" was remixed by Wyn Davis and remastered for the 40th anniversary and includes a 1982 "The Mob Rules" tour replica hardback concert book, a 40-page book with photos, artwork and liner notes and a 1982 "The Mob Rules" tour replica color poster. It will be available as a 4CD and 4LP set.

This iconic collection captures the raw energy and heavy metal mastery of the SABBATH lineup of the lineup of Ronnie James Dio (vocals),Tony Iommi (guitar),Geezer Butler (bass) and Vinny Appice (drums),with classic tracks like "War Pigs", "Iron Man" and "Paranoid" among the highlights.

BLACK SABBATH, one of the most prominent and influential faces of the 1970s rock topography were, by the decade's end, a band in disarray. Once the masters of their own reality, the Birmingham four-piece were now battle-weary veterans, wearing the deep scars of a near-ten-year album-tour-album cycle. BLACK SABBATH's then-latest album, "Never Say Die!", released in September 1978, would transpire to be their final studio recording with Ozzy Osbourne, who in less than a year, would no longer be with the band.

The loss of the iconic voice might have signaled the end of the band. But, that wasn't to be the case…

Dio, RAINBOW's founding lead vocalist whose lion's roar had taken the band to gold and platinum status, also parted company with the Ritchie Blackmore-led outfit. Several phone calls later and a chance meeting in, of all places, the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, Iommi invited Dio to join the remaining members of BLACK SABBATH for an impromptu rehearsal. Within fifteen minutes and one brand new song later ("Children Of The Sea"),a new era of BLACK SABBATH was born.

The resultant album releases over the next few years proved without question, that this match was one without peer and succeeded without question in carrying the name of BLACK SABBATH (later with Appice replacing Bill Ward on drums) proudly into the new decade. With an accompanying soundtrack featuring some of the most exciting and dramatic heavy metal to ever grace a studio or stage, BLACK SABBATH rose once more to a place of highest regard within elite rock circles.

Such was the chemistry between these players, that two reformations of this BLACK SABBATH lineup have since been made, the second of which, starting in 2007 and ending with Dio's death in 2010, went under the title of that first ground-breaking album, "Heaven And Hell".

1982's "Live Evil" caught a band at the height of its powers.

I'm probably in a minority but I'd have preferred a box set of the individual gigs that made up the album. Let alone the mythical film if it survives.
With that said, I'm curious to hear the remix.
