We've gone through all the Black Sabbath... it's a fun exercise, so what album could/should be next? Doesn't have to be one we're familiar with, we could get an obscure or less well-known LP and go through it. I'd be up for some Thin Lizzy, for example, as I've only listened to Jailbreak all the way through, and that just recently.
-
I'm not sure I could go through a whole bands catalogue again. Doing the odd classic album from some bands might work, but we need more people to get involved.
-
I would be game for this but I'm not sure how that would do for others...my writings on these matters tend to rub people the wrong way which is why I opted out from those last few Sabbath ones. I don't want to cause friction.
-
What if we have a one comment per song rule when talking about our impressions of the music? If there's a bit of silliness about one thing or another, let that run its course, but we just say all we want about a song, just our own views and not in reference to others except to say agree/disagree and leave it there. Nobody should be "wrong" for having a different impression of a song. And nobody should feel "wrong" for being the odd one out.
-
How about an album we all enjoy and wouldn't mind walking through again... Master of Puppets, say?
-
^^Im for that. My idea would be classic albums or Sabbath family tree albums. So random Ozzy, Dio, Gillan, Martin, Iommi, GZR etc, any album that has an association with Sabbath.
Also another option could be for each to pick an album they love that they think most others aren’t all that familiar with..
-
I like those ideas Jack... if it's my choice, I promise I won't include anything too obscure! ;)
-
OK, cool! Let's start with the ol' MOP from Metallica!
-
Some suggestions for future albums to consider. Just ideas, I've tried to include albums that most of us might like...
Dark Side of the Moon / Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Rust In Peace - Megadeth
Overkill - Motorhead (other albums are an option)
Never Mind the Bollocks - The Sex Pistols
Back in Black - AC/DC
In Rock / Machine head - Deep Purple
Powerslave - Iron Maiden (other albums are an option)
Painkiller - Judas Priest (or another album if we must ;) )
...please offer other suggestions.
-
Plastic Planet - GZR
Blizzard of Ozz - Ozzy Osbourne
Iommi - Tony Iommi
Ward One: Along the Way - Bill Ward
-
^^^
I like that, but would have selected different albums:
Black Science
Diary of a Mad Man
Fused
Accountable Beasts
add to those:
Holy Diver - Dio
-
I like 'em all, even the ones that make me ??? a little, but that's what this is for.
How about also...
Thin Lizzy - Black Rose
Uriah Heep - Demons and Wizards
Grateful Dead - American Beauty (in case we want a quieter album in the midst of the metal)
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush - What's Next
Rush - Fly By Night
-
Hmmm...
So many albums I've never heard...might be interesting to go through something that I've never listened to before...and reviewing the tracks fresh without many listens.
I think that since we're doing Puppets we should do Rust In Peace as well at some point...and Among The Living...and Reign In Blood...and Fabulous Disaster...just to get all those thrash classics out of the way... ;D
-
Rust in Peace next is my vote!
-
Nearly finished Rust In Peace.
Can I suggest either In Rock or Machine Head next I think we all like Deep Purple.
-
YESH DO BOTH
-
I wouldn't mind going through some Purple....and if it's Deep even better!
-
How about In Rock and then Machine Head?
And if we did Fireball in the middle, I wouldn't mind...
-
I'm okay with doing Fireball too, to some extent I think it's the most consistent.

Looks like we go 1-2-3 with them, then. I'm totally stoked for them!
-
After Machine Head, I'm thinking we continue with Richie Blackmore and go with Rainbow Rising?
-
Surely you do “Who Do We Think We Are” before moving onto Rainbow?
Also going on your reviews I get the impression that some of you’s prefer early 70’s DP over early 70’s Sabbs?
-
^^^
I don't have Who Do We Think We Are. I only recognise 1 song off it!
I can't speak for others, but the best Deep Purple is good but not Sabbath good.
-
I don't think WDWTWA needs a rundown...it's not that good of an album anyways...3 good songs and that's about it...
I think in comparison the first 3 MK2 DP albums are about as good as the first 3 Sabbath albums...about but not quite...that being said Child In Time does beat everything on the first 3 Sabbath albums...but overall I'd still pick Sabbs over Purple for the 70-72 period.
-
I didn’t realise that only bands good albums were worthy of a song by song rundown :P
Personally I think it’s worthy given its MK2’s first four albums
-
To be fair it was Zs who suggested all three Mk II classics, seemed like a good choice. As I said earlier I'm not familiar with the WDWTWA album but I wouldn't object if it was done, I just doubt I would join in.
-
Re. the next album: Anything that would have high audience participation. :) Notice that we had a drop-off when we went into the Martin-era albums. There was interest in the first 3 Mk2 DPs, so I'm totally up for that. And, yes, if I had to choose between Machine Head and Sabotage, I'm going with Machine Head. If it was just the 70-72 period, then I'm 100% Deep Purple.
WDWTWA can be a good one to go to, a look into a band coming apart. But I'm open to other suggestions, even albums I don't know that well. I'm happy to learn about new stuff.
-
Sooooooooooo, what's the next album to go over?
WDWTWA?
Rainbow Rising?
Holy Diver?
Blizzard of Ozz?
-
I needed a break from this, it has been, what, must be close to a month now and I might be happy to start another one!
Rainbow Rising for me, but any of those would be worth a go.
-
Let's do Rainbow Rising, yeah!
-
Man, that was a fun ride. :D
What next? And I'd be happy to do any album, even one I've never heard yet.
-
How about a complete change?
I'm inclined to suggest Back in Black or maybe Overkill, perhaps Never Mind the Bollocks!!
-
I'm up for any of those. Both Back in Black and Never Mind the Bollocks will be new to me.
-
How about Back in Black then?
-
How about Back in Black then?
Hell's Bells! We've got a decision!
-
Just putting these out there as options:
Ozzy's first two solo albums
Dio - Holy Diver
Geezer - Black Science
... but I think something leftfield might be appropriate, suggestions?
-
Let’s do Senjutsu in a weeks time. A brand new album might be fun
-
I'm up for that!
-
I was thinking Senjutsu would be the one after next. It would also give us a chance to hear it a few times and allow it to sink in. But having said that, a little break might freshen us up!
-
I'm not sure I'll be getting that one right away...I might but so far the songs I've heard haven't really screamed BUY THIS NOW....
-

It comes out tomorrow so that will give us a week to take it in. I may even stay up until midnight tonight to listen to it. Only 2.5 hours to wait now. I’ve preordered the red & black marbled vinyl but unfortunately it won’t arrive for another week or two so I’ll be streaming it until then.
-
Yeah, new Iron Maiden for our album club!
-
I thought it was out on the 10th (but you're correct it is the 3rd!!! Just checked and I was getting mixed up with the new Stranglers album that's out on the 10th!
